Piece of a Massey Ferguson 1949 combine harvester.  ;)

No but seriously.

It could be anything but it looks a bit modern to me. Ring up the Channel 4 time team.

It's amazing what sometimes you can pick up in ploughed fields particularly after heavy rain.  Coins, clay pipes, bejewelled gold chalices that kind of thing.

I think its a hat from a large fairy or a small lephrauchan.  Obviously got petrified from all those years in the field.

Yep Shield Boss...... >  bet they can give you cultue that used it and if Roman what leigon it was.....  Futher it I dont think it was the hand cover Boss but a decoritive boss attached to the shield elswhere than the center grip.
