Absolutely right. Because it takes a group of genuises on par with the Manhattan Project think tank to smuggle some box cutters and use them to stick a handful of half-trained suicidal fanatics into the cockpit.

Doesn't take a brain to create devestation. I could take a 12 gauge to a Gas Tanker on the Beltway any day of the week during rushhour and create chaos, disable a major artery, disrupt events in Washington DC and kill myself all at the same time.

As is the case with many words describing specific groups of people, it depends entirely on the context and tone. When somebody says 'Yeah, that's just typical Yankee logic'--although a very mild statement by any measure, it nevertheless implies a belittling slant. "Go to hell Yankee' would be a more extreme example of using the term to focus your anger/hatred at a specific group of people.

Personally, when it's unbiased and without the F word preceeding it, or some sort of razzing comment after it, I don't take offense. Some Brit could call me a Yank or Yankee and I'd be indifferent. It's just a familiar term for an American, despite whatever history it may have.

Of course opinions differ. Some, I think, would consider it an insult in any context, especially if the statement has anything to do with baseball.

Will somebody tell me wtf YMMV is?

I wonder when will you?  Is it rational to praise the murderers of 3000 people?

Were the spain train bombers clever?

I don't think he's praising them, Grun. I think he may even agree with you that they were bad people, he's merely saying they weren't idiots.

Personally, I see nothing clever in what they did. They exploited holes in airline security as well as this country's lax policy regarding the training of pilots. They simply applied those weaknesses to the tune of some extraordinary results. Like I said before, a couple dozen guys with less money and planning could create more disruption and panic any day of the week on this nation's interstates.

Would it make them smart? No. Just desperate and ruthless.

You know, it's like when Bill Mahar called those guys who took over the airplanes 'Brave Men'. It came across as praise and I(along with many others, I presume) instantly wanted to jump through the screen, onto the set of his silly little show, and break his face with my coffee mug. I came to understand that had I tried, I'd probably have broken my own face against the screen.

The moral of the story, for me, is that when you run into one of these guys who can sympathize with the perpetrators of that event on any level, even on the most tangental, the only sane way out is to ignore them.

Now, can somebody tell me what YMMV is?

Just as a point of note, the number is close to 1,450 Americans killed, 3,000 total.
