AH and Win NT...ARGH!
« on: September 30, 1999, 03:38:00 AM »
Any chance to make the AH beta run under WIN NT? When I try to run it, i get an error message saying "Ordinal Number 6 cannot be found in Dynymic Link Library "DSOUND.DLL"" (rough translation from German WIN NT).

Any thoughts??

Working hack for Win NT would be nice. Guess we'll have to wait for the w2k problem...

On the main webpage HTC lists AH requiring DX 6.1 (that's probably the message you were getting - NT only has support for DX5 through SP5).  I suspect that until MS releases Win2k or DX6 for NT, AH will only work on Win9x machines.

Problem w/NT as I understand it (I wuz there back in the spring) is that it's DirectX is too Cretaceous-era. DX3 is what's officially supported. Somebody did get DX5 working with it, but there's no install--you have to manually replace files. No thanks. I sweet-talked my IT guys into a dual-boot setup with NT and 98 instead.   DX5 ain't enough for AH in any case.

NT4.0 uses DX3 as a std. but there is a DX6 crack but I have not been able to get it to work for AH.. However I have it running under Windows 2000 pro RC2 and it works fine.
