"Even if true, that article describes a more Russian-Afganistan situration then a US-Vietnam situation."

Both of those situations (and Iraq now) were more alike than different IMO of course;  Ambiguous, contrived and/or inflated reasons for involvement, outside influences and agitation cause MAJOR difficulties for the embroiled super-power, propping up of a puppet government, lack of popular support at home AND abroad.... etc, etc.

But militarily and economically they are entirely different.
Iraq has no one to shovel them weapons, they are I would guess probably relying on weapons that were allready there.
Also, Neither Vietnam nor Afganisitan had anything the invader really wanted. Iraq is sitting on one of the most valuable treasures in the world.

Who cares if you can sneak a dozen AKs into Iraq?
Try to get 400 stinger class manpads in there in such a way that the US cant tell from the residuals where they came from....

I am afraid Of esculation and I hope we do It right this time.

I always fear another viet nam because it is so easy to fall into that trap!

As you can see Iraq Is fixin to be in a civil war and we gonna be smack dab in the middle of it .

We are gonna have to either get ugly and bloody on this one or just come home and spare more Americans lives.

Dont get me wrong I am all for the removal of SH.
And trying to build a democracy IF thats what the majority of Iraqis want.

I will always stand behing our troops and I am trying to stand behind the President on this one as well.

But something about these latest developments scares me a lot.

I pray for the troops.

I don't agree with you much, but I agree with you onthis one...Prayers required.

I read Powell's book and I was 110% behind him and his views, regardless of his political affiliation, but recent developments make me reconsider all of this.

I wonder how much ammo the Iraqi insurgents have. How much more explosive material they have. Eventually they will run out of ammo, explosives well that might last a while. Theres no way a civil war can be won by the Iraqi insurgents (without support and resupply), if they tried that, it would play right into the hands of the coalition forces.
