I bought a New Computer in 2002, From CompUSA. I Gave my Dad some 2000 In cash, and in turn he paid for it using his Credit Card.

I put a CompUSA Warranty on it, and Also bought a Internal 100Mb Zip Drive.

They told me, They would have to put it (Zip Drive) in themselves, or I would void my Warranty, So I agreed.

When I first took my Computer home the Next day, It didnt work.

So I boxed it back up, called a Cab and drove out to Comp USA to have them fix it. They gave me an odd look, And I told them what I thought was Wrong. I told them I think its something to do with my Graphics Card. They Disagreed, and thought I downloaded a Virus. I told them, "Look, I turned it on. And it didnt work. How could I have D/L a virus?"

I returned to pick it up (Three Days Later), and they told me it was Graphics problem afterall :rolleyes:

Flash to the Future-

My Computer is dirty, I can plainly see it collecting dust on the vents and such, So I decide to open it up an clean it. I unscrew all the fans, to give them a good cleaning. While I'm unscrewing my intake fan I notice that One Screw appears to be in a different posistion than all the others. I unscrew it and take a good gander at it.

The Idiots at CompUSA screwed the screw into the wrong hole and cracked the corner off my fan. It still works, but just goes to show If you work at a overpriced Computer "Superstore", doesnt mean you can operate a computer.

Next Computer I get, I'm building it myself.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

That's the best way to go. Though you can get some pretty good deals from Dell.

CompUSA is filled with retards, and I don't mean that jokingly. They are so stupid, the new word for that kind of stupid would be "CompUSA".

I applied for a job there a few years back and was met with the question, "What Certifications do you have?" I said, "None" and was met with sneers and petty laughs.

Two weeks later I began a job for the federal government, and worked there for four and a half years (can go back anytime I want too) and recieved numerous awards for my efforts. I was in the hardware department.

So, take it from me - they are dip**** retards.

I avoid CrapUSA completely, especially now that EB Games opened up a local shop. Their staff is moronic at best (they must hire future used-car salesmen) and the management is even worse. A few times I've stopped by there asking about a given product only to be greeted by blank stares or flat denials. Last time I went there was over a year ago for a new headset. I found out that they had sold out of Audio 90 headsets the week prior, contrary to what I'd been told on the phone. To boot, when I did find a headset I liked, the fudge-packin' zip popper at the checkout counter demanded my personal info or he wouldn't ring up the sale. Grabbing a manager didn't help: "It's standard procedure when you want the one-year warranty." Funny, I thought that's what a warranty card is for? Arguing with the manager was mostly pointless, but he did finally relent and told Mr Zits to ring it up.

On my way out I heard a different checker ask for some kid's address and phone number because he was buying an X-box game. He said he wasn't supposed to give that information out to anyone except police or firemen (smart kid!). That prompted the checker to call a manager over for a quick chat. Needless to say, the kid left without buying anything. I saw a guy who looked like his dad stomping in just as I left the parking lot.

What is it with these idiots? They don't give out advertisements to people they get info on, and they don't call 'em. So why ask for my address/phone #?

That was one thing I hated about Radio Shack. Go in to buy a .50 battery and they wanted your life history. Thank God they stopped that practice.

...but you can still have problems. I built this comp that I'm sitting at about 6 months ago - ordered all the parts from http://www.scan.co.uk Put it all together, powered up and got gibberish on the screen. No chance of a virus for the same reasons as you - hadn't got any software on there yet. The video card was porked. I tried two other video cards and they were fine. I returned the faulty one (Radeon 9800 Pro) and asked for a replacement. Well of course, they denied anything was wrong with it. Said they would return it to me, but that meant I would have to pay a service fee and the costs of shipment. And I suspected they knew it was faulty and were going to ship me a new one. So rather than mess with them, I got a refund (which took them nearly 2 weeks to process) and I bought a Radeon 9600 retail from PCWorld (loose equivalent to Circuit City). It worked fine. Maybe not as good as the much hyped 9800 Pro, but I get 110-120fps in AH with it, and even saw 187fps in AH2.

plus you choose the components, quality, not some outfit set on optimizing their profit margin at ur expense

Customer info database.  Service Merchandise used to use phone numbers as customer numbers, so that they could send catalogues and track the regular shoppers.
