Talk to Widewing or F4UDOA.

F4UDOA is really experts on Techncial data and some stuff about Corsairs data in 1940s.  I mostly know Corsairs History for USN, USMC, RNZAF, FAA, and French Navy.

No, I haven't see him a while until he post somewhere in AH II Forum and he's rarely not on this time.  I use remember his email address, but now I lost it and he really never reply when I sent him email about F4U-5.

Sorry Rafe,

I have been very limited in my time lately. I have lost some motivation in AH2 with the long roll out time. I know I still owe you those charts on the -5. It's coming I swear.

Bollilo,

F4U-4

That should do it.

The only problem I have with this chart is that in the flight test data it does not say the high octane fuel was used in the flight test. And in fact there is no speed increase at low alt as would be expected with high octane fuel.

Rafe,

Try these out for starters.

Faster than a Tempest and climbs like a Spit XIV

F4DOA...have you checked the numbers on the AH2 F4U-4 to see if they have adjusted them to match all the data that you have provided?  Would be nice to get that -4 performance increased to match the perk points ;)

Rafe,

No problem dude.

I always say that the data I collect isn't mine to keep. It is a living record so the more people have it the better the chance this stuff survives the next generation of Warbirds geeks like me.

Frost,

HTC has several charts and graphs for the F4U-4 that show better performance than the one we have. Why we have what we have is a mystery to me. Having said that it is only the climb that seems off and that depending on the chart anywhere from 300fpm to almost 1,000fpm. The biggest gripe I have had with all of the F4U's in AH is the stall speeds are way to high.

thank you for the reply f4udoa, there was a chart posted about 4 years back (I believe it was you that posted it) that showed the f4u-4 being tested against the 51D and both the 51 and -4 had phenominal performance due to using 115/145 fuel and running at a much higher map. now I am not confusing this with the navy test of the 51 for carrier service. I believe this test used the 51b and had two sets of data for the f4u-1d. If I remember correctly the -4 on 115/145 fuel had initial rates of climb around 4770 fpm and its speed was around 390 mph tas at sea level and 470 mph tas at 25,000ft. I cannot remember if you found it at the naca web site or not.

Ahh,

Different test.

That wasn't a higher grade fuel though. It was just the R2800C block instead of the R2800B. It allowed for higher MAP.

I have that test posted on my web site with some other stuff you may find interesting. The large F4Utest file from Vought has some P-38 data and much more.

well f4udoa, thank you for your response. I did find your home page before I posted this thread. maybe it was somebody else that posted the hand drawn chart of a f4u-4 running a higher boost on 115/145 fuel. it was posted around this time 4 years ago. I havent been able to look at archived pages of this forum. they do not go back that far. thanks everybody for their response.
