4 wheel ATV 4x4
« on: April 12, 2004, 04:40:01 PM »

I am in the market for a 4x4 ATV and, as a snowmobile guy, I know nothing about them.  I'm not looking for anything brand new, preferably a 400 cc up to a 600 cc, liquid cooled and a 4-stroke.

Its primarily going to be used as a utility vehicle, pulling stuff (hay, grain etc) with occasional jaunts into the woods for hunting and maybe some trail rides.  That pretty much encompasses all the uses doens't it?  :D

Anywho, I'm leaning towards a Polaris but have heard good things about the yamaha Grizzlies.  Any brand is in the game, but automatic transmissions get the higher ranking.  I don't want to mess around with having to shift gears all the time.

Any opinions out there?  Thanks!!

I don't have a whole lot of experience with ATV's, but I've ridden a Grizzly before.  To me the auto trans felt all wrong.  It was easier for me to have the gears available instead of the trans doing it for me in what felt like an oozing fashion.  However, the Grizzly I rode has been put through hell and it's still running.

About 3 years ago, I won a Suzuki Quadrunner from a raffle. 500cc Auto trans liquid cooled.

I still have it, but its in storage. Great lil ATV.

Take care what ever you get.

ATV's count for more motorcycle deaths and injuries in New Zealand then anything else.
