Computer Woes update

Well I got my new Antec power supply today and installed it.
I hooked everything up and pushed the power button. The fan on the power supply made about 3/4 of as turn and stopped. So I pulled everything loose and rechecked. Tried the power button again and the fans started running! "GREAT!" I think. Wrong I was. After running about 5 seconds I heard a low "pop" sound from my computer. I checked and everything SEEMED to be working ok..so I hooked it all up to the monitor. NOTHING. Just the stupid "You're monitor is working correctly" message.  SO I thought maybe my video card went bad. Changed it out to an old one that I know works. Nope..nothing there either.
So I guess my motherboard has gone bad. Maybe this will explain all the troubles I've had from my other 3 power supplies. So I guess now I order a new motherboard and try that. If that don't work I'm gonna call Alienware and be done with it.

the low "pop" could be from a circut burning out.

do you smoke? is there alot of dust inside your pc?

i fried a memory stick from smoke scum.. the dust devils touched 2 points on a stick and arced. "snap" and smell of fried electric components. took about a day to find the melted contact on the ram stick, never though to look at that.

MB and processor were un-hurt from the issue, but PC wouldnt boot without memory.

Yep I smoke..and my cat uses the top of the computer for a bed.
I'm just gonna go ahead and replace the motherboard and RAM this week.

if you are compentant enough to pull out a MB and stick a new one in, first pull out the RAM and put on an antistatic bag.

inspect it.

do the same with the processor (USE and ESD strap!!)

if you see no blackened circut connectors then replace the MB. otherwise look into the cheaper option of replacing the damaged part alone. (though if there is a pin on the processor that is black the MB is hosed too.. same with the RAM slots).

I hope its something simple like that. Or at worst a fried MB but the processor is ok.
I'll let ya know when I find out more. I appreciate the suggestions!

After you power up your PC do you hear the POST (Power On Self Test) Beep from your computer?   I would suggest removing everything connected to your motherboard, and try booting it up. You should hear the Beep. If not, its almost certainly the MB.
