Plywood & Sheet Rock Dimensions in Europe
« on: April 16, 2004, 06:41:30 AM »
In the US, plywood comes 4 foot by 8 foot.  Sheet rock (otherwise known as plasterboard or drywall – for interior fire proofing) comes in the same size.  What size are these products in Europe?  (Or other metric based countries)

How high are your standard new construction ceilings?

standard wood construction in the states is 2x4 studs on 16'' centers and 4x12" headers over doors and windows..  the 4x12 is not really needed in some cases but is a good "spacer" and time saver when not needed.

standard ceiling height is 8' and sheetrock is very common in the 4x12' size for commersial/contractors.

gonna knock out a wall and add a bay window next week.  well... more accurately.. gonna have my dear ol dad do most of it.   He's only 74 so it's either that or the ice floe.

My father-in-law lives with us.  He is 84 and does projects and physical labor every day.

Gotta admire old folks.

My dad just converted a bar into a house that he now lives in.   He did allmost all the work himself..  there is a "retirement community" down the road from him and he makes extra money by doing 'handyman projects' for the "old people"  he saves em a couple hundred bucks a project and still can make a couple hundred bucks a day..  some of the "old folks" that he works for are 10 years younger than him..

not all people are created equal.

Really!?

A ceiling in my small apartment is only 2,70m, and it's damn low. We have 2,5m ceilings only in Khruschev's time mass-produced 5-stored apartments... Khruschev succeded to join bathroom with toilet, but didn't have enough time to join floor and ceiling...
