Instead of trolling and arguing...
« on: April 16, 2004, 01:28:30 PM »
...why don't we take a little time out and help out our soldiers, sailors, marines, pilots, and their families by donating time or money to a good charity?

I've been donating via the Combined Federal Campaign to:

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation strives to relieve Special Operations personnel of the one concern, their families, that might distract them from peak performance when they need to be - and when America needs them to be - at their very best.

The mission of the RRVFPA is based on our statement of Principles and Objectives. We endeavor to provide a dynamic association of like-minded aerial combat veterans who avow patriotism and the defense of the Constitution of the United States of America as its guiding principles.

I liked these three because they were found to have some of the highest ratio of dollars going towards their goals vs. going towards administration.  There are many more out there of course.  Some are into sending care packages, such as
http://www.adoptasniper.com/.

Bottom line is these folks are sacrificing a lot to ensure we can live our daily lives the way we want to (like b$@*hing and moaning to or about each other), and could use some help so they can concentrate on what they're doing.  It seems universal that their morale is tied to what's going on at home.  If their families are being taken care of, it's a great burden off their shoulders.

As for our foreign friends, I claim ignorance of your military-related charities but I'm sure there are equivalents.  And your soldiers probably worry about how their families are doing back home also.  So...

I glanced over the list, didn't read it. I can see how a big fluffy towel can be important in the field. After all if all else fails they can wet the towel and snap their target in the back. Or use the frisbee.

One question through. Do they need a squirt gun with scope or just a plain one will do?

if they have done their homework they should be able to snap them in the groin with the fluffy towel and hurl a frisbee at their nugget to finish them off.

with all the soap, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant they could make their snap from within a brothel....perfect cover.

what about care packages? we got one together for a gal at work whose brother is in Iraq.
Is there an outfit which handles something like that? that would go to the soldiers other than the sniper link?

SG, Nilsen, you missed the point... the purpose of the fluffy towel, is to put it on their head...so they can go "Undercover" ... as TOWELHEADS  :D

Sorry Mauser, couldn't miss this opportunity :)

Hold on Eagler, lemme check...

Here's a couple of better sites for care package info:
http://www.operationmilitarypride.org/index.html

http://www.usocares.org/home.htm

Another site that has good info on what can be sent and to whom:

http://www.equipped.com/deployed_military_suggestions.htm

Looks okay in your case Eagler since it's someone you've got a connection to.

lol, as for the rest of you... gads I had a feeling I was just ASKING for it when mentioning "sniper."  :p
