Zinni sound like a very smart man, but beeing a retired soldier that prolly has seen what war really is, he prolly sees things in a different perspective than mr Bush.
I wonder how many potential terrororist recruiting nations that could be helped out of their poverty with those 200 billion+....not to mention how many people it would help and save. Now that money is indirectly spent recruiting terrorists and fueling a negative world opinion towards the US.

I'm not a Bush hater and I'm very pro American as a rule. Despite being one of those  Euros (whatever that is. ).

My opinion for what it's worth is that I suspect I would get on fine with GWB on a personal level. He seems like a genuine enough guy. But I have come to the conclusion that he is a poor president and will be seen as such even by Republicans in time.  He is not a great leader, just distinctly average.  In part  I think he's badly advised and is a victim of the neo cons nutty theories. But as the saying goes. 'The buck stops here'.

His leadership is suspect. To me, he really doesn't seem to be in full control of his cabinet. More of a figurehead than anything else.

His administration has succeeded in uniting all the crazies, the Islamic fascists, anti Americans, socialists, greens, anti capitalists, etc etc.  I do blame him for that. Those self rightous p****s have never been happier.

To be fair he's had a hard tour of duty, no President since FDR has had to face a crisis like 911. But he's no FDR and he squandered a lot of the goodwill there was with his subsequent actions.

If he doesn't get re-elected , watch as all his erstwhile friends put him down.

I don't think it's greed that is driving up the price

I don't know if this is true, but I heard that the reason for the high gas prices is because we can't refine the oil fast enough(aka demand is more than supply). Supposedly the newest refinerys in the U.S. are 30 years old and hardly any new ones have been built.
     Anyone confirm this?

The truth at last.

And now for the triple bonus question: why haven't oil companies built any refineries lately?

Schaden, use your head, your a smart guy... just look past the idiotic hype...

Low US gasoline stocks and pressure on US refiners to increase production of new gasoline blends have also helped drive world crude oil prices.

Environmental regulations demand new grades of gasoline, which can vary from state to state.

But building processing facilities to serve so many different markets is expensive and environmental concerns can make planning permission difficult to obtain.

This means refiners are struggling to meet demand. Analysts expect summer holiday driving demand in the US to magnify this problem.
