Ping rate is bad please help
« on: April 25, 2004, 02:18:53 PM »
My ping rides at -1 and bounces up to 0 in short quick movements, I was told that this is causing my warping problem. I have been given a copy of recommended things to turn off authored by scuzzy. I turned all of those off, turned off all of my security stuff, i don't have a firewall that i'm aware of or at least it says i don't. I have turned off all but the necessity's of my start programs. And I have had no change in my ping rate. Could someone please give me some advice as to what I can do to get a no fluctuating 0 ping rate.

thats actually the variance, when you first start the game and you are on the window where you can choose the arena you want is the ping numbers...far right..

Another test you can do is to goto pinplotter.com and get the free version of pingplotter. and enter the address for the two servers at HTC

216.91.187.39
216.91.187.38

and run the pingplotter. This will make a list of the route your signal takes to get to HTC, as well as the time...ping... to each.

It will show you were your bottleneck is....if there is one. If its steady and the pings are under 200 your connection is ok, then its a computer problem on your end.

If it turns out that its a computer problem on your end, run Dxdiag and send a copy of that to Skuzzy and he'll do his best to help ya out. People at HTC are a big help.

the closer to a strait line up and down the more stable your connection.

This is a 10 count on mine. The red line is the avg ping I'm getting to that server. The black lines off of the red line are the highest, and lowest ping for that nexus/server in the route. The bold numbers to the right of Round Trip are the numerical values of the pings. So in mine, my average ping to HTC is 45, and my longest...of this set was 72.

Now even tho mine seems to have some big bounces, the over all average is well below the 200 Skuzzy says ya need to play the game.

If yours are running over the 200, the left bar where mine is green, will have red or yellow in it depending on how bad you pings are. Are yours all green? Are you running multible pings, not just one. You can set it up to ping as often as you like for as long as you like. I have mine set for every 5 seconds, and it will ping till I shut it off. If ya ping it once ya might get a lucky run ad everything looks good, but the next 5 runs may be junk. Let it run for 5 mins. Post a picture if ya can. To post a picture you have to upload it to a server, and then put the address in the BBS here to see it.

my avg is 34 & my current is 34 I am having trouble posting a picture.  My first #1 is white but all the rest of the numbers on the left are green.  It won't let me says smiley's are off.

My buddy just got back from his camping trip he says my ping rate is well with in the proper range but that something else is causing it to warp more than likely some setting within the game.

when i am looking at the different arena's my ping rate bounces between 78 and 62 is that good or bad.

thats a great ping rate ... the national avg ping is around 82-90

if your warping alot it may be a firewall or av program scanning to much stuff.

well it sounds to me that something going on with your computer. Those are good numbers so your internety connection is fine. You must have something running in your computer that is taking up a bunch of CPU cycles and is causing your computer to delay in sending or recieving the info, hence the warps.

Next step is to find out what running on your computer. I shut down ALL non essential programs on mine before I run AH. I use WIN98 and normally have 10 things running at once...printer spoolers, anti-virus and such. Before I start AH I run a program called "End it All" which shut down everything I don't need. I only have 3 things running when I start AH.

I think Skuzzy posted a list of what programs you have to have running in XP to keep it stable for someone else who uses "End it All". Do a search for End it all on the boards, you might find it. If not, you could ask Skuzzy in an email, tho he won't get caught up till sometime Monday....hes a busy guy!  :)
