Damn is that super guppy one ugly plane, and even more ugly doing touch and gos in 20 knot gusts to 30 wind.

Honest question here...

Were you nervous when you started flight training?

I mean like the first few times up.

I logged my first hour, and I'm not going to lie to anyone..

I felt like I was going to watermelon myself as we taxied...

I felt like I was going to yak when we lifted off

Mid flight I was good

Approach, I started getting nervous again.

I want to fly very badly, but I dont know if I could ever take a plane up alone.

Is this type of anxiety common in student pilots?

its common for everyone. You will get better and it will get easier. Just keep a positive attitude and it will go ok.

Make sure you have a good instructor thats the key. After your first solo you will hate flying with an instructor again.

muck, I will probably have the dough to start pilot training in the summer and I had exactly the same questions. Hell I'm nervous just thinking about it.

something that veterans might look into in their states is the state funding of flying lessons.

It doesnt cover the private lessons but covers everything after. I know here in Texas if you are a Texas veteran you can get all the training paid for at 2 schools, 1 is in kileen and the other is in Pasadena. Its not something that gets talked about much but it is free. Training here at the pasadena school will run close to 40k.

Me too..these freakin' 172's look so damn....flimsy..

But I have such a passion for flying, I can't stay away.

You should look into the Civil Air Patrol.

There are many members who are instructors as well. They can get you a cut rate deal on training and here in New York, members can take the planes up for next to nothing. You can save lotsa $$.

Boys, stay a little nervous, fly by the numbers if you're a newbie, keep your head on a swivel looking for other traffic, LISTEN to your instuctor, don't fly in conditions you're not trained for, always have an emergency airport in sight, take aerobatic training, don't eat too much at the airport resturants, get some excercise, don't show off low to the ground, always treat an airplane and weather conditions with respect, live a long life, have fun, tell crazy flying stories when you get old.

Believe me, it's been a few hours for me. I've gone from complete novice to doing semi-solo flights including aeros and I still feel as nervous with every new flight as I did with the 1st. I have managed to do every single sort of stupid thing in the circuit, landed 1/2 way down the runway after a rather too fast approach, bounced like a SOB after hitting the runway while going a bit too fast, almost stalled on finals, stalled inverted while doing loops, Lots of fun stuff.

Best feeling I've had though was hitting the brakes while taxi-ing. We only had clearance to "Bravo", my instructor almost took us to "Charlie". I felt like king of the world after hitting the brakes and making him ask for forgiveness from the ATC gods

To me my experience when I started all was fun and I had no worries, the more I got into aviation the more I read about mishaps and people doing stupid things costing the lives of themselves and others the more I got worried and nervous .

But the first time I went up in a small aircraft I was holding for dear life, yet when I actually began flight traning I've had gone through that so I started taking my flight lessons pretty quickly soloed at about 15 hrs logged.

Yes sir, happens to everyone to some extent at some point.
Accept it, enjoy the flying, and as your training advances you'll feel more comfortable.

Sorry for contributing to the hijack, but my big weakness is aviation questions.
