Alternate Views: an idea...

What do you think about....

I like the current view system in place in Aces, I am just suggesting take it one small step further..
At present we can save our head position for each view.  How about an alternate position, that we can also save.  For example:  Looking out the back of the F4u, u can save the 6 view looking back over the left shoulder or right shoulder..  Set it up so you can look over the left shoulder, and have an alternate mode where u can, by pressing another key or button, look over the right shoulder instead (the alternate view that you have also saved).
This would permit rapid checks over both shoulders (more realistic)
In Aircraft like the FW you could set your alternate forward view to look down at the guages so that you could see the fuel guage as well..

Just an idea, IMO a good one

The rear/side views already do this, since they cover a 90 degree field of view, enabling you to check both sides of your tail in their entirety without even using the "straight" 6 view.

The down/forward view is worthless anyway, so I move that one down/forward even more with the arrow keys, so that it only shows the instrument panel. Works real well to look closer at the fuel gauge or what have you.

In other words, the view system already has these features  .

Along the same lines, is there a way to set up the views so that you can get a forward view thru the gunsite, and another forward vew  with the head pos up high and to the side, to look around the nose?  I use the head pos keys for this right now, but would be nice to have a key combo for instant view.

Ed, Press the 8 key on the numpad and hold it. Now move the view up and to the side with the arrow keys and Pageup. While still holding the 8 key you then press F10 to save this key's position.
The next time you then hold the 8 key it will move your head to look over the nose, and when you release the key it will move back to look through the gunsight.

This will only hold true for the plane you programmed this view in. To get it in the other planes you need the do the same with them. You can off course also adjust all the other 26 views in each plane. At my page I have put up the views I use in each plane, and I have the look over the nose on the 8 key too.

The rear/side views don't cover the fuselage induced blindspot, that can only be seen from one side in the six view. A slight hazard in a fight because of the enemy will disappear from all views when on the opposite side of the set six view, where having two would allow continual tracking (and simulate looking over both shoulders)

In the F4U and P-47, the canopy bulge is not really represented, so to see both sides of the tail, the view has to put as close to the armor plate as possible, where as on actual thing (and slightly more like the P-51) the pilot could lean out into the slight canopy bulge to see around the armor plate and glance at more of the tail.

Due to the restrictions of the monitor I'm for a alternate six view...if AH was capable of representing actually viewing conditions, a six view wouldn't even be needed, the rear/side views would cover the whole rear quadrant. Of course, the same argument could be made for mirrors.
