First new stick setup in six years of flying..
« on: May 01, 2004, 08:07:34 PM »
I HATE IT  I HATE IT   I HATE IT !!!

Real sweet setup, I really like it.

But I'm fuggin starting ALL OVER again !!

Square one, fuggin meat..

If I'm REAL lucky and don't have to use all of my views..

Like when I'm in a fight for cripes sakes ??

I "might" get a noobie..

If he doesn't do any of those fancy pilot thingys..

So this next tour I hearby title..

"The OFFICAL get poop while he can't figure out what fuggin button did that on the old stick setup tour..."

( I will take donations at the end of the month for the poop family to purchase new pets...furniture...listening devices...TV's and most of all windows..)

CH USB Fighter stick, Pro throttle and pedals. Sweet..but jeez, relearning something that was second nature for six years and thousands of hours is just a wee bit frustrating.

My dog could tell ya..but he's not available..

He's at the vets.

Poor bastage..

When I combine the vet bills with the price of the setup I've found a new stick setup is VERY expensive.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it Poop...No doubt you'll get back to normal soon.

I bought a Saitel X45 last year. OMG the difference in that and the MS one I had was night and day. I spent at least the first 2 weeks getting killed over and over and over. Way worst than normal I should say.:lol

At any rate...I have been thinking of getting some CH Pedals. I have to figure out how to keep my legs still during a fight first though. Thats the main reason I was interested.

This X45 is so smooth. I really like it. Hat Switch is a lil worn already though. Trying to watch all these good sticks in here will give it a work out quickly. They just won't stay still dangit.

Best of Luck man...you'll get back to GREATNESS soon.

I feel your pain, nopoop. Going through the exact same thing with same setup. Had it going less than a week now and even though it is a mathematical impossibility, I may have a negative k/d ratio soon. :)

But I do have a good button setup going... it's a comfortable scaling I'm having trouble finding.

Thanks Ghosth I'll send ya a mail today. Thanks fellas I know it's just a matter of putting the hours in.

I tried to set it up as close to the TM Topgun setup as I could, plus some new stuff of course. I have a simple setup. I don't fly bombers, don't need all the options. I use two of the four positions on a few of the 4-way buttons.

Problem is that my stick set button was my pinky on the old stick. Used to cycle up views. The problem comes in in the way the CH fighter stick is built. If I use my pinky for the stick set, the distance to the 8 way hat for my thumb is too far. If the pinky button were an inch higher on the stick it would be sweet. Where it is now it's unusable..and still be able to use the 8-way decently.

So I HAVE to use a new button for stick sets. The brain is not understanding this after six years of using the pinky. So to fool the brain I mapped it to the OTHER pinky I got issued at birth. Ain't cheese on my neck.

Well..

That USED to be my back-left view..and my brain got confused..Today we'll try using the wep position ( index ) for the stick set..and moving wep to the stick pinky..

I'll get used to it. Added both voice coms, trim on all axis', tailhook, toggle eng, damage, map zoom, fire primarys to what I already used on the old stick. It's hands off the keyboard flying now.

Set your Hat views to your throttle Hat.

This way you dont have to reach for the one on the stick.

My "look up" button is the center botton on the back of the throttle. The middle finger of my left hand sits on it. its much easier to reach then the pinky switch and hat on the stick.

That's the button I'm trying, but I slide my hand over and use the index. The hat switch ( traditional index ) is used for toggle gear and hook so I "reach" for it.

I asked my right thumb about giving up the view hat responsablities and it busted out laughing..and my left thumb said "wha ??"

I don't want to anger or confuse the thumbs..

That and my left thumb second responsibility is to assist the left fingers in gripping the cheap beer..

Hehe, I switched joysticks a little while back.  It was really hard.

When I'd get in a dogfight I'd go to get one notch of flaps.  Next thing I know my gear are down.  And whoops, they're ripped off.

... the distance to the 8 way hat for my thumb is too far.

Poop ...

I have the exact same setup and I too suffer from the stubby thumb gene.

What I did to help solve the problem was to sand down the nipple on the 8-way POV hat. With the raised surface, and a short thumb, the elevated center on the 8-way was screwin' me up. Once I flatten it out, things got much better for me. A much cheaper option than surgery to get one's thumb lenghtened.

Use a dremmel tool and slowly shave that bastage down.

I too use the center button on the back of the throttle for switching to "UP" views. I have also programmed the first two buttons on the throttle for my forward up view. When engaged, my hand might be towards the bottom of the stick, ergo, short thumb can get up there for the forward up view so I use these 2 buttons.

Works like a charm for me. Pinky finger on stick is Squad vox for me and range is the red button on the top side of the stick.
