A Big <<S>> to Dell!

For giving 100 free laptops to families of deployed troops from Fort Hood thru Operation Homelink .
Quote
"Because of Dell's generosity, 100 more families will soon be communicating faster and more easily with their loved ones," said Dan Shannon, founder and president of Operation Homelink. "There are thousands more who qualify for the program; however, we can not keep up with demand. With about 2,500 qualified military families waiting to receive computers, we hope that other companies will follow Dell's lead and provide their retired systems to our cause."

Yeah, and when their notebooks break, they get to deal with the Indian Dell tech support people. Have you called their tech support lately, what a freaking nightmare. Took me all day to do what would have taken an hour with someone who could actually speak english.

:rofl

I don't love their tech support, but it's no worse than any other I have delt with. At least they are reasonably quick. I've had plenty American tech support people that couldn't do anything but read the manual, and did that rather poorly. As for the language problems at Dell, I try to use e-mail if possible, seems to work better that way.

Imo IBM has the best tech support i have ever seen. Dell is very poor, but that may just be here or i have been unlucky. The best thing about IBM support is that you seem to need it less than you do when you buy from Dell :)

You can get average deal with low end systems when bying off-the-shelf computer. Never on med/high end systems. By the time the shopping adrenaline wears off you notice that all you got was Celeron 2.4ghz with 256mb RAM. Such can be easily advertised as good gaming platform, when in reality has hard time even booting up the XP.

Its great entertainment to read the computer advertisements tho.
