I made this skin with a few things in mind. First, I wanted to figure out if I had the patience to spend a thousand hours trying to make a decent skin. Second, I needed to figure out the basics of using layers to get everything put together, and third, I wanted to see if I could grasp basic skinning concepts as panel lines, Riviting, and weathering.
The following images were never meant to be submitted to HTC, but were to lay the groundwork for my next project (which I started last night) which will be an improved version. While I already have pleanty of ideas as to how to improve this basic skin, I thought I would post these .jpgs and get some feedback from the community at large.
Here, I can see that there should be a pronounced panel line where the underside meets the side panel under the cowling. It also appears that my riviting is too subdued in many instances, as is the panel lining.
Top view: No riviting visible on the wings. Most of the pictures/drawings I've seen don't really show the wing riviting. I'm not sure why this is. Also, no shading to show the spars on the elevator.
Here's the underside. I shouldn't even show this one, since I've already totally redone this. Here, because I could not find a suitable drawing (I have two now) I just went with the panel lines from the stock AH skin. Except that I really didn't do much else here. There's no weathering/useage marking on this section of the skin right now.
This is just a profile shot. More of the same.
So there you have it. A Skinning n00b's first attempts to wrestle with the software. I recognise that I have a long way to go, but I'm really enjoying the process so far.
