Sounds snobbish but once you have seen most of the great bands of the 70s all other pail in comparison.

I hated van hagar until I saw them live in 87 at the monsters of rock tour.  Live Van Hagar kicked Van Halen's ass.  But as far as studio albums go I like Van Halen's music better.  Both good singers and Hagar plays lead too but I like the way Dave sings on the earlier stuff better.    He sounded like a guy having a fun time and it makes the music better.

Come on Dave give us a break

Hey hey hey! One break COOOOOMING UP!

Diamond Dave made VH much more entertaining than Hagar could.  There's just a huge streak of "sleeze" to DLR that made VH entertaining.

I like both versions of VH but when you get people with personalities like EVH and DLR in the same band things dont last.  Hell...when you get people like EVH in bands, bands dont last.

Again, I enjoy both incarnations but I guess the first two VH albums were the best, with the debut album "VanHalen" probably being one of the best and most influential albums of the the 70s-80s.  If I had a choice I would prefer VH with DLR (but I dont have a choice so Ill listen to whichever makes good music).

The ironic thing is that after the **** in the 90's I like DLR and SH better than EVH.  Poor Micheal Anthony.....

Okay, this discussion is simply going in circles, so lets get to another prescient musical debate.  Was George Michael really the most talented half of Wham!?  Or was Andrew Ridgeley simply never given a fair shot at solo superstardom?
