Short questions about Yaks
« on: April 19, 2004, 11:45:27 AM »
1) Why oil leak in Yaks last for less than one minute, while for all other aircrafts it does for over 5 minutes ?

Thank you in advance for info.

Best regards

Just a guess.

It probably has a small oil tank hence it doesn't have a long time to leak, Compared to say a P-51 that may have substancially more oil on board.

FYI, This is a guess.

The 109 can leak oil for quite long time as well
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

While your at it why don't you check the "Over Generious" flight models on the Yak's. The Yak should be able to catch a 109G-10 at 25K+ but I had one run me down like I was sitting still and it wasn't a Energy state - we were both at co-alt for a long time in a tail chase.

Something is bad wrong with that.

The Yak shouldn't catch a G-10 at any altitude. No unperked plane should catch a G-10 between 5k and 30k. On the deck the G-10 is as fast as a P-51D. At 5k it does 400mph, at 22k it does 450mph. The only planes faster below 5k is the Typhoon, La-7 and Fw190D-9. At 30k the 109G-10, P-51D and P-47D-30 are dead even in speed.

I fly Yak9U very often and I'm sure it's slower than g10 at any alt between the deck and 20k, which is the maximum alt I've reached in it.
The acelleration - one of the best Yak's performances IMO - is also inferior.
