I can certainly see an E, F, or possibly a G added to fill out an early war scenario role.  The J seems the most obvious choice, but the performance of the later J's is so nearly identical to the L that I don't see the point.

Even though they only built one and it never flew in combat, maybe we could get a perked P-38K.  :D

I'd rather see the G or even H model.

The K would be cool, no more Runstangs since we'd be able to chase them down.

I'm thinking either the G alone(or maybe with an early J) or the F and the H.

Lets watch that P38F talk Ack-Ack :)

My Nomad 38 was always a P38F with a bad left engine that leaked oil all the time with the guns misaligned too.

Loved that old "Miss Fire" :)

i'm laying odds on a G or H model since it wouldn't have to be so majorly reworked visually.

The J looks like the L, but the G and H both look like the rest of the early models with the sloped back dual air intakes under the prop instead of the flat triple intakes of the J and L.

The reason for the difference in the intakes was that the J and L had core type (made like radiators) intercoolers with the cooling inlets below the props, while all of the earlier versions had the intercoolers in the leading edges of the outer wings.

So only a J model could be done without signifcant alteration of the actual graphic model, anything like a G or H would require a serious rework, as would an M, which would require a hump behind the pilot for the RO.

id put my vote on the p38F and p38H being most beneficial for varieties sake

though an addition of a p38J to the p38F and H would really make the p38 set complete the way the 109 set is. the J being a tad faster with no dive flaps or boosted ailerons would be a variation of performance between the H and the L.

P-38H is an excellent choice because it will make scenarios much more balanced when the setup is 1943 luftwaffe against b17s and p38H's escorting. also the mediteranean theatre used early model p38s long after the j and L was available.

That was my first inclination, but the more I think about it, the more a G and early model J make sense to me.

The early model J meaning J-15-Lo and earlier, WITHOUT dive flaps? The only advantage of the early J over the G and H is power level, and that is handicapped by added weight.

Not much difference between the G and the H, and pilots of the 20TH and 55TH FG's told me that they had at least as many H models as G models, so I doubt it really matters.
