This law is funny. "United Russia" party was a little bit too much eager to lick the prettythang of our beloved president. People said that according to this law people could be allowed to protest only in tundra in face of polar bears... Putin didn't sign this law and sent it back so they will "soften" it. It's funny that new version prohibits demostrations near presidental residences, so the May 1st demostrations in the Red Square supporting our beloved government and Party will be prohibited too ;)

Putin's  inauguration on May, 7th was celebrated by National Bolshevik demonstration in the Bolshoy theatre, with Presidental Security beating teenage girls throwing propaganda leaflets around... It's the peak of idiocy so far.

A joke from four years ago: Comrade Putin loved the inauguration ceremony so much that he ordered himself a portable pocket inaugurator...

Unfortunately, happy ignorance of the idiots is the ideal social condition all over the world :(

It could be funny if it wasn't so sad. With our beloved administration's habbit of licking any brass hat's prettythang this law will be used to cancel any demostration if it's not a protest against the opression of black minority in the United States...

Sorry for using this standard form of sarcasm from Soviet times...

I think it's kinda funny. Not a single one of Saud's posts that I've read said that he's against protests.  All I've read is that protesters should not be able to block traffic, or block entrance to the government building, or block a route to a hospital.

I think everybody is so obsessed with being free that nobody is concerned with respect or courtesy of others.

Those men and women died for us to be able to choose our religion, being able to speakout agains the government, get an education, open our own businesses. What they did NOT die for is some moron being able to put his and other lives at risk because he thinks that everybody should be eating vegetables for the rest of their lives.

May be the law above goes a bit too far, but some sort of leash has to be put on protestors.

Sounds like something we could use here, quite frankly.

Ah, but look at the quote Sardaukar agreed with.  If his intention was only to say that you couldn't protest near hospitals, then I imagine he would have edited it appropriately.

Of course, changing ones statement to something more defensible in the face of debate is pretty common, I sincerely hope he's not doing that.

Well, if they block hospital entrances, I think at the very least, ambulance drivers transporting critically injured patients should be able to drive over them.

I still don't see a problem with it. Every one of those exceptions presents a situation that could be potentially hazardous(sp?) to those that are not part of the rally/protest. A student should not have to go through a crowd of protestors to get to school. An ambulance shouldn't have to go around a crowd to get to a hospital. A businessman should not have to push his way through a screaming bunch of activists to get through to city hall.

Of course the word "around" would have to be clearly defined as well.

You can’t protest wherever you want here in America either.

Abortion clinic protests for instance. Also the secret service sets up designated "protest zones" during presidential visits. Most of the time they are so far away from the "visit" to make them pointless.

Parades and rallies in most cities require permits as well.

All free speech hypocritical liberals are hilarious. How many of you euro folks in this live countries that ban "hate speech" etc.....

Freedom? What freedom? What governments offer is "liberty" which is the licensing of freedom. Each country has its own set of restrictions and requirements. Comply with those requirements or lose your license.

Saur, I was with ya from your original post LOL.

And for you "other guys": it only takes a sec or two to actually read a post and consider the author's meaning before hitting the reply button.
