I've been moaning for the last 12 months that my puter's performance was going down, I had frequent lockups, BSODs, frequent unwanted reboots, some applications with very large files would not install and othen had file errors after the reboot/checkdisk loop.
Having worked in IT for most of my life, i decided that I'd fix the bugger.. can't afford to buy a new puter just yet, it'll have to wait for after the summer. So, I get the "what i think is failing" pieces of hardware one by one...
I think I reinstalled Windoze about 15 times. tweaked it in every possible way i could find.
Hardware wise, I started to put some fresh cooling paste on the CPU (15€)
Got myself a new harddrive (100€)
Then, i thought it was the SBLive Cheapo Value, replaced it with a Muse sound card (30€)
Replaced the older GForce 2MX card by a GForce 4Ti4400 (250€)
This is all without counting the cost on my nervous system, because the more I was fiddling with it, the less it worked.
Yesterday, for some unknown reason (well, a corrupted ntldr helped...) I reinstalled the puter, and replaced the IDE cables. (1€)
It works like a charm since then.
