I think, if he became President, it would be one of the strongest, single acts, for strengthing this country in the last 40 or 50 years.

I'm not talking about what he would do as Pres... I mean what him becoming Pres would mean to young afro-american kids and their confidance in their own future.  For black kids to actually have a real life roll model of someone that has become Pres that they can directly relate too would eventually give the country a huge return in more of them having more hope in their future and becoming more than they think they can now.

IMO When we call America the land of oppurtunity where anyone can even become President, at the moment a white kid, like I was, can look at past Presidents and say "Hey, he's no different then me... I can do that too if I work hard."  While, a black kid should be able to do the same thing now, but doesn't as much unfortunately... I think Colin  becoming Pres. would legitamize it more in thier minds.

LOL

I just read that Colin Powells' son is chairman of the FCC.  I had recognized that same last name before but never knew for sure that he was his son.

Funny thing is that Michael Powell is tearing apart the Direct marketing industry (which I work in) with huge restrictions on advertising claims (some are good but a lot are ridiculous).  Some of his restrictions cost the company I work for over 10 million dollars in refunds on a product that a lot of people actually loved.

I would probably vote for Powel.  I served during his tenure as CJCS, and have enormous respect for him.  However, I can't blame him for not wanting the job of President.  No matter how solid your integrity is, that job (along with most high elected office) has got to present the most horrendous moral challanges on a daily, if not hourly, basis.  My last job before retiring from the Air Force was commander of a 20-man detachment.  It was the first job in 20 years of military service I regularly took home with me at night.  I can't imagine the stress as C-in-C of the entire country.

Powell wouldn't last ..too many idiots out there not wanting this country to have a black president, and he knows it. His concern for his family is the main reason, which he reported as early as 1991.

As for "role models" there are plenty black role models out here, but most of the clowns onthis BBs won't do much more than claim all the black role models are on BET or ESPN...

I believe he'll be completely fed up with politics after serving out his term as FS. All the verbal battles with Rumsfeld and the other hawkish morons have worn him out and probably caused him to be disillusioned with the US government, the GOP and politics in general .
Don't think he'll have the energy or desire to run anymore...

And that's a great loss to the world, I'm absolutely convinced that he could solve a lot of problems the US and the world as a whole face nowadays.
