Ddriag,

If you have enough E try an early turn into the vertical.  Bad guy tries to track you up, runs out of E pulling too hard, you reverse above him and blow him away.  Never fails...

But it's so easy to avoid a HO shot if you dont want to shoot. There are a few situations where a avoiding a close pass isnt possible but for the most part it sure is.

So a master of the HO attack is someone who is a master of exploiting the most unrealistic parts of the sim.

Certainly there can't be much of a historical argument against HO attacks.  I've read a lot of pilot accounts of dogfights and many pilots report making HO attacks.  They seem especially prevalent among pilots facing an enemy with inferior armor or firepower, e.g. Thunderbolt pilots or almost any pilot facing a Japanese fighter.

Personally, I avoid them because if the other guy has any ability, they are a 50-50 proposition.  I will only take such a shot out of neccesity, e.g. if I am vastly outnumbered, if the other guy has vastly better E, if the other guy has vastly better airplane, or if I have to take the shot to save a friendly unit I am escorting.

Hi

There is nothing really wrong with HO in in a general sense, the problem is there are folks in here who do nothing else than HO, run away and reverse, HO run away and reverse, HO run away and revrse, then get killed by a real pilot. Repeat this over and over and you see the problem with HO in AH.

JCY19, I imagine you are right. Tipping a cow would take more skill than doing a HO.

Why most people hate it is because the way AH is set up, it encourages HO's.

In WB's, if both participants  had their wings shredded in a HO, or, basically both hit the ground real hard after encounter, both pilots would receive the kill award from each other.

In AH, only one does, so, it makes it worth the risk.

IMO, if the WB's method of dying was implemented, then you'd see less HO's and more ACM.

Even better would be if neither pilot received a kill, that would really reduce HO's
