I cannot believe anyone would print something so obviously bogus.

Frankly it's disgusting to me.

You must realize there are people who are not as familiar with the military as some folks here are.

These people will take a story like this at face value, and then judge all our marines based on a liars tale.

Wow...sacbee.com...there's a reliable source for all your news...

There is absolutely no way this guy is a Marine, especially not a 12 year vet.  Let me point out just a few flaws...

1) 12 years in and he can't even accurately describe his MOS?  "...in charge of...machine gunners and missile men..." HAHAHA...Sure you were...missile men...LOL

2) Lit them up?  No 12 year vet, especially one in a position of command, would describe the act of opening fire on a vehicle that way.  It would be, "We fired warning shots.  When the vehicle did not slow down or stop, we incapacitated it."

3) Naming of one weapon, but not the next.  Why name the M16, but then not the proper name for the .50 calibers?  "My platoon used both the M16A2 rifles and the M2 machine guns," would have been correct.

4) He doesn't know the difference between an ICBM and a cluster bomb, and what kind of delivery platform they use.  Artillery-fired ICBMs.  That's rich.

5) He mouthed off to a commanding officer and was then retired with honorable discharge and full pension?  Wrong.  He would have been court martialed and dishonorably discharged for his antics.

I'm not going to get into any more...The Sacramento Bee is obviously a tabloid-like production.  That story is completely made up to tug at the heartstrings of the CA left-wing liberals.

It seems like they took some true info and just exaggerated it(like the marines fireing on cars full of civilians, which has happened a few times). I think it is a mixture of a dumb grunt and bad journelism.

For three years he trained fellow Marines in one of the most grueling indoctrination rituals in military life - Marine boot camp.

I pretty much stopped after that.  "Indoctrination" is a term someone who obviously has an agenda against the military would use.  My boot camp experience was thus:

-Get in shape.
-Learn Navy history and terms.
-Spend 8 weeks practicing for graduation ceremony.

Indoctrination?

Yeah, right.

I find it odd that the town name was spelled wrong (it's Waynesville, not "Waynsville").

Someone wanna call Jimmy and ask him some questions?

lol exactly  8 weeks of practicing for graduation. and we were spiffy in our brand new ricky dress blues lol.  My company had the cheerio flag!  we kicked ass

but Navy boot camp was not physically challenging in the least.  It needs a lot more PT.

and the article sounds like BS.  WHat tipped me is calling the Seargent-Major "sir" which is not right from enlisted to enlisted.  Unless the seargent major gets treated differently, but I dont think so.

I spent fourth of july about 3 years ago doing fireworks with the seargent-major of the USMC btw
