Yup.
I've dabbles in such attempts for sometime Furball, but the conclusion I got was, by the time one stretches, bends, cuts, pastes, cleans out the FB/AEP skins to AH2 standards, it gets so ugly that building a new skin from scratch is actually less work involved - besides, it looks better, too.
The VOID.BMP files are helpful references for placing rivets and panel lines, and some general detail prior to actual skinning, though.
