Crashes to desktop becoming unbearable. Help.
« on: October 07, 2000, 08:57:00 PM »
First I have tried all the recommendations. I've tried lowering my video acceleration by a notch. I've loaded all the latest drivers for my video, motherboard, and VIA chipset. I've tried various resolutions and color depths. I've tried turning off fastwrites in my video card and motherboard.  And no I am not overclocking my video card.  Additionally, I have no programs running in the background, all that is there is systray and explorer.

Most of the crashes occur while online. Almost every sortie ends in a crash. They are reported as discoes when I check my pilot score, yet it also happens offline as well.  So I'm not sure if I'm getting a combination of discoes and crashes.  I assume AH sees crashes as discoes also, not sure.

I've just about had it. I've been flying for about 2 weeks, a newcomer from WB. It looks like I'll be going back to WB cause this is just ridiculous. What fun is getting discoed or crashed everytime you fly. Come on, there has to be someone else who experienced this problem then fixed it.  I don't get any crashes in other programs so I know the problem is within AH.

I have a 700mhz Pentium 3, Elsa Gladiac Geforce 2, 256MB ram, and Abit VT6X4 motherboard.  I get 50-80fps on average.

I have tried video drivers from Nvidia, 6.18, 6.27, 6.31 and I have tried the latest Elsa drivers also.  I also have the latest VIA drivers v 4.25. and the latest Abit BIOS.

I don't know the answers...but I'd suggest you post this on either the Tech Support or Internet Connectivity board also.

You may want to include a pingplotter or trace of your connection from before you fly or just after you crash.  Also, are you crashing at certain times of your flight, what is on your screen when you crash, how does it crash (just closes the application?), turn RW off (it automatically tries to start unless you toggle it off), you said it does happen offline also, so maybe it's not a connectivity thing.

Anyways about the only help I can be is to suggest trying the other forums where the techies cruise.

How about a safe mode boot and check for ghost drivers? This causes desktop crashes with many DX games.

Boot to safe mode (F8 during boot) and go control panel then system and see if you don;t have motr than one video, sound or ?? driver installed. This has happened to me (especially adding new video drivers all the time).

Hi, thanks. As I posted, recently I have fixed teh problem using DirectX 6.1.  Perhaps my system doesn't like DirectX7.0a. Anyway, I will be trying beta X 8.0 to see what happens. Wish me luck.
