Check six and head on
« on: May 25, 2004, 03:45:49 PM »
Hello there all good people. I must confess that it has happened to me once or twice that I´ve been executing the "check-six" when I was too far away to see If the enemy-plane was diving for a friendly planes six or if he was diving towarws a head on.  Apperantly using "check six" is a delicate matter because people can get disturbed by it instead of get helped by it. Maybe if there were a possibility to squelch the "check -six" people would become a litte less paranoid about abuse of the "check-six"?

At the risk of drawing a common sense penalty from shane, if the person who is annoyed by the check six's, they could go into their sounds folder and rename/remove the sound file.  Then they would only have to put up with the text in the system buffer.

Alternatively, for those who don't want a check six, I hear the knights are the place to be.

Alternatively for the ones getting an earful for giving check sixes inadvertantly, do something similiar to nopoops wall of butts -- make a list near the old virtual cockpit and mark down those who don't wish to get the check six calls.

A checks six followed by the plane id over vox is a nice touch.

For example, If I am chasing an LA7 and I get a check six I have to wonder if there is another con on my six or is the Check Six for the LA7.

If I get a check six and then hear La7 mars then I know I probably don't have a second con on my six.

I'd rather you err on the giving me a bad Check Six than no Check Six.

I find range vox more helpful is those situations as it gives a better picture of the danger (e.g., " that 51 is eyeing you xxxx" or "you see the 190 below you xxxx ?"). The only time I use the "check six" key is if I cant read the name with those ITTY BITTY fonts, which is more often than I like. Wasting a space(and FONT SPACE) for a bishop, knight,  or rook icon is just plane silly when the color should suffice. Only thing I can guess, it is to show a destinction from AW . It is in no way better or more clear.
