Since the beginning, as I recall, and currently both
friendly and enemy radar "dots" are black.

This is true also of the sector counters.

And yes, I do have the friendly=green and enemy=red
set correctly in setup.

I asked online yesterday and a few others reported
the same problems. I believe they also had Radeon cards.

Is this a known issue? If so, why has it been around so
long without being fixed? If not already known, then
this post should make it so....

I see friedly dar and icons on planes in squad colour for some and green as set for others

When was the last time you updated your drivers and what version do you have running right now ?

This was addressed by Skuzzy in the beta arena a few days ago - update your v card drivers.

That's NOT gonna happen! I will not play "update your
drivers if you have a problem"...especially with an ATI
card.

My past experience with attempting to update drivers
on my previous system with an ATI AIW Pro was that
almost every time it PORKED my TV tuner installation
and when it didn't it still tequired me to re-install the
ATI MMC stuff, resulting in having to re-do all channel
information.

These drivers work just fine for everything else and
I'm NOT gonna chase my tail with driver updates until
AHII is stable and in a non-beta condition!

Acdcording to DxDiag:

6.14.0010.6378

That's what came with the system when I had it
built in September.

I'm not about to go through the "clean your system of
ALL ATI references prior to upgrading drivers" exercise.
It's just not worth it. I'll live with the black icons...

Sorry but you'll probably always have black icons if your unwilling to update your drivers properly. You can't complain about an issue if you won't fix the issues you already have with your pc. Your using outdated drivers and thats it. Simple fact is ATI would not be updating their drivers if they didn't already know there were issues with them.

For what it's worth, I bought my Dell 8300 late last year (I believe). Just updated to the latest (Dell approved) driver for the ATI video card, and it fixed the radar color problem. Doubt I got the latest ATI drivers this way, but was a painless automatic install. Didn't have to un-install anything.

My system:
Dell Dimension 8300 (6-month-old computer).
Pentium 4 3GHz
256MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 XT with driver 6.14.0010.6414
512 MB RAM
Windows XP
DirectX 9.0b

I had the same problems until I updated my ATI 9800 128 with the new drivers...fixed it straightaway!

I'm showing a whole slew of people not in my squad in squad highlight in the game. I've installed the latest nvidia drivers and then installed the latest omega driver on top to cure a stuttering problem. No improvement in dar dot/icon colors. Just so you know, there is a bug here - black dots notwithstanding.

For some reason if your on the same vox channel as others they show up in squad colors

I have "4 squad" selected in vox.
