Frame Rate/Vsync question
« on: May 25, 2004, 07:03:29 PM »
Now I know I don't have the most up to date machine, but my frame rates absolutely refuse to go over 60.  I've tried playing with all the detail sliders, flying up to 25k over water to reduce triangle count, overclocking my video card, and everything else I could think of.  It feels like my monitor is refreshing at 60 hz in AH2 (instead of the normal 85), leading me to believe that AH is for some reason changing the refresh rate to 60 with Vsync on.  It's actually painful to play the game, and the title flash screen with the white border is horrible to look at... it feels like I can actually see it flashing.  Any idea why my monitor would be refreshing at 60hz?  Windows says 85 before I go in-game, and is still at 85 when I exit.

I just noticed this when I installed the most recent patch (today's, beta 36 I think), but I haven't tried AH2 for two or three patches so I guess it could have been any of them.

Running AH at 1280x1024 res.
Athlon 2400+ 266mhz fsb, 512mhz pc2700, GF4 ti4200 128mb, a7n8x deluxe motherboard.

Are you running AH at the same resolution as your desktop?

If not, that would explain the refresh rate change. Refresh rates are set by resolution, not across the board.

Tarmac, If you want to run at a dfferent res than desktop. Change desktop res to what you want in ah. Then set the desktop refresh rate. Then change your desk top back to the old res. AH will now run at the refresh rate you chose.
