Bomber AR234
« on: May 23, 2004, 01:09:08 PM »
I have to question the current costs/perks involved to fly this great bomber.
The AR234 carries only 3 bombs and is a high altitude bomber, hence for a bomb run with a successful impact one need to take a formation flight having a total of 9 bombs.
But here is the catch, flying the AR234 in formation the cost would come to roughly 178 points one has to redeem. Flying one single AR234 is not sufficient and with minor affects. This might be the reason why we almost never see anyone flying the AR234 in the main arena. The AR234 is the only bomber in the game one can redeem bomber perks for; unfortunately there is no other “Perk-Bomber” around, like a B29 could be.
The AR234 was supposed to be used for very strategic operations, i.e. HQ runs, bomb runs on time pressure, etc. I wonder if the point/perk system for this bomber has been set up to avoid any strategic operations in the main arena, a place where almost everyone sorely looks for kills and climbing up the ranks (just watch how eager one is for vulching). The current behavior in the main arena is far from a strategy, something all wars in history were planned on.
I hope that in AHII the AR234 perk system will be more moderate or that great bomber better be removed from the bomber list.

I love the Ar234 if i want to get some where quick. Or just want to see dum prop planes trying to catch me. I just sit back and laugh. People will go to the extremes to kill a perk plane, But they cant catch me :rofl

Kaiser, keep in mind those bombs are in kg's. it carries a maximum of 1500 kg. That's about 3000lbs worth of bombs which are very effective against hangars, hq's ports etc.
But ofcourse they aren't suited for carpet bombing.

The AR234 should be used as Germany used it. As a high speed attack aircraft. To attack high profile targets that could not be attacked with slower prop planes. Such as the Ramagan bridge or large fuel dumps behind the lines.

You are correct though it is very hard to aim, and with just three 500 pounders you better get it "right down the pickle barrel" to got good effects. I think AH felt if you were a good enough bomber pilot to get the points you could use it well.

Of note is the use of the AR-234"B" as a recon plane. Cleaned up nothing could catch it.  Could be interesting to have recon missions in AH.

it may be that they set the perk points high so that you see one in AH about as often as you would have seen one in WW2.

234's are hillarious anti-262 weapons.
