CH analog sticks and XP
« on: January 24, 2004, 07:17:26 PM »
CH has suggested  that XP users either program analog rigs in DOS or a 9X machine. This is because the Keyboard has been locked in XP and the keyboard emulation by CH analog devises (the keyboard connector) no longer functions.

I add to that, especially if you use it in other games, to program as many of the buttons you can as button functions, and only use macros for items common to other games. You make your analog rig more adaptive this way.

Still flying my analog CH Pro pedals, throttle and Fighterstick !

I know a few people that have done a dual boot system as well, 98 to program their sticks and XP to play the games.

I've owned both and the USB sticks are far more reliable and require alot less calibration than the gameport devices.

Not sure if Stegahorse is still around.   But with the hope that you are can you describe briefly how you are doing this (using your old gear and programming it in dos before XP)?

What type of boot disk are you using to get a DOS prompt? And which CH DOS programming disk are you using- F16 fighterstick or the Pro throttles?  And are you able to program the fithterstick buttons as well as those on the Pro throttle?

Thanks in advance !

I have all my analog CH stuff working on XP...so far so good I used a USB addapter to connect everything thru.

What I did was save all my CH files and folders from WIN98 to a second drive. Then once I got XP running I moved the files and folders back to thye main drive and it all worked. I don't think I need all the files because when you install a new stick configuration to the CH stuff, you upload it strait to the device.

I can no longer program my stick due to XP, but if I plug everything into my old computer....the one that stil has XP I can redo setting there and they should transfer.

I just kept an old machine on Win98 to program mine.  I only play AH and Warbirds, that I use my flight rig to play, and many commands are the same.

Mine did. I tried it first on my sons computer which had XP and everything worked. I then install XP on my computer and hooked it up and it all worked there too. Like I said before, I don't reprogram things on mine so its not a problem.

I'll try that. My sons pc is still using Win98Se and moving the gear isn't much of a hassle if this works.  My only though it that it might not for me as I'd cut out a few capacitors in the Pro Throttle years ago. This was the CH "fix" to get them to work with the older BX mother boards. I'm not sure if they will retain profiles now.  It had a hard time enough time doing that under Win98Se as it were ;)  (frequent "unable to find keyboard" errors and constant hard resets)

 Thanks for the replies!

I get the unable to find keyboard error once in awhile, but mine turned out to be the cable that plugs into the joystick base. I have the throttle and joystick mounted to a base that I can slide onto the edge of my desk when I want to fly, and slide off and hang under my desk when I use the computer for a million other things. Seems the moving around loosened up the plug from time to time. In the habit of making sure the plug is seated good every time I move it now.:D
