Hey oboe!

The 1.7 pentium 4?  (Did they make a 1.7 pentium 4?  that sounds like a celery, I mean celeron to me) is fine.  Hell a 1.7 celery is fine.  Its all video card after about 1.4 ghz.   Do you have a onboard video card?

Running an AMD 1.67 myself with no problems.

Video card, drivers, dx9, ingame settings are all variables that will change things.

What is your frame rate like?  You may want to just buy a 50 dollar geforce 4 5200.  I have a g3 and get between 40-75 but I have a 2.8 p4 with 512 ram.

if you dont know how or never looked inside take it to a shop and have them do it. usually where u buy the card they will have a service center to install it.
As far as cards go you can get a decent 128mb videio card for less than 100.00
Nvidia or ATI
check best buy/ circute city/ Fry's
or u can try online but yu will have to still get it installed

I was using that card on a 1.333 thunderbird Athlon.  It will work but you would be a lot happier with something else.

You can grab the drivers right from nvidia.com  - that omegadriver site's driver (omegadriver.com?) might get you some more performance.

Best reliable joint to buy online is NewEgg.com, remember however if it says OEM  you usually get no instructions or install disk.

Replacing the video card is very easy.

Make sure you are grounded, open the case, locate the old card (the one your monitor is plugged into).

Check to see if there is a clip holding it to the board, normally located at the base of the card on far end away from the port your monitor is plugged into.  If there is a clip make sure it is disengaged.  Remove the screw (if there is one) holding the steel/chrome bit to the case, sometimes this is a plastic device that releases all cards.  Then gently pull the card up.  Replace it with the new card and screw back in.  Remember to disconnect your monitor at some point.

I would suggest a cheapo 60 dollar card unless you want to spend alot.  With your processor I am not sure how much help a big card would give.  ATI 9200 or a geforce 5200 should be fine.

This of course after you install the nvidia drivers and see if your current card produces a playable frame rate.

Help with Video card , drivers ect.
« Reply #13 on: May 27, 2004, 04:40:27 PM »
Stratocaster, you live anywhere close to Antelope Valley in California  ( Palmdale, Lancaster , Edwards AirForce Base ) .
If so I will be happy to do what ever is needed with Video Cards and drivers etc.   WildCard has squarly hit the problem ! you need a better video card , what ever card brand you decide on , be sure to avoid  LE versions or Lite cheap copys . If you for instance choose a Nvidia 5700 Ultra , then do not buy the Le ( cheaper  ) version . or an ATI XXXX LE , they are junk compared to the OEM premium cards . Try to get one with DDR2 ram . One other thing , if and when you replace your Video card and install new drivers , besure to also re-download  DX9 B and let it overwrite the existing DX 9 files , .

Hope this helps .........

 Let me know .
