Sound Problems
« on: May 24, 2004, 10:04:26 PM »
<> Gang,

Running MUSE XL Gamesurround w/ latest drivers. No problems in AH 1 with sound.  AH2 sound is under water sounding. Pitch of RPMs changes when I change views.  Running Mitsu Sounds imported from AH1 during AH2 installation.

Tested and verified still no problems in AH1 with sound.

Any ideas?  Anyone experiencing same problems?

I uninstalled/re-installed AH2, this time I didn't import any of the AH1 folders.  Left sounds to default, still having the "underwater" sound as described before.

Went to AH2 Sounds folder and played each sound individually, and all sounded fine, SO, somehow the problem is occuring after the game is executed.

 Still looking for clues....

When that happens look in the upper right corner and see if anyone is on vox.

Happens to me when someone talks on vox.

Can return sounds to normal on my system by going to clipboard, setup, gamesounds, and moving the volumne slider in any direction.  Sound comes back but????

I then start losing sounds...

first to go is usually gear sounds then engine start/stop then flaps, and eventually engine and guns.

Use Mitsu's sounds, but so do many others with no problems?

Note I have onboard sound with the MB (SoundMax) and a SB512 with everything turned off but need it for the analog game port.

Having no problems with AHI or any other software that I can detect.

No sound effects turned on etc...

Problems getting worse.  Sound fades in/out w/ zoom function, almost liket the zoom maginifies the sound also.

It is happening when someone on vox badly, but also present in game sounds.  Again, no problems in AH1 whatsoever.  I vote a DELAY on AH2 live date, and eliminating AH1 altogether.  3.5 years playing feeling a bit discouraged. :*(

BIG <<<>> to AH gang, keep up hard work!!!

Most people got rid of their problems by updating their drivers.  In addition, most people can run AH2 smooth and, like me, with even higher FPS than AH1.

So, double check, if you really have the newest drivers for your onboard sound (check not only mainboard manufacturer, but also chipset manufacturer), but that might be not enough. Onboard sound is very often a source of problems, especially the older onboard soundchips. You might have to upgrade to a soundcard and buy something like a soundblaster live, which are pretty cheap now.

Running a Hercules Gamesurround Muse XL soundcard w/ updated drivers.  It is not onboard sound.   I did upgrade my system anyway.  See system specs above.  I have plenty of HP for AHII.   I would be convinced that the problem is my hardware/software if the problems existed in AH1 or any other application, but IT ONLY HAPPENS in AH2.

:)  thanks for the input.  I hope I can figure it out soon.   :)
