Sliding canopy?

Ok so I was dweebing it last night in .37 in a nik, did the HO with another nik.

Both had our windshields covered with oil, he died, I'm trying to glide back to base.
All of a sudden it hit me.

Up to this point we had no real need to have a  canopy that we could open.
However with the new effects, being able to open the canopy so you could lean out & line up on runway would be a big help.

Also I saw a post calling for an upgraded bailout model. Well sliding canopy's would be awesome for that wouldn't they? Forceing you to open the canopy first, then climbout, etc.

I know your busy HTC but it was just a thought.

Keep up the good work HTC, its getting better every week.!

One of my good friends tried what you are suggesting in real life. He was flying a DeHavilland Otter on floats when the prop seal went causing the 600HP Pratt round engine to spew its contents onto the windshield. He is not sure what is worse, not being able to see very well or having one's face burned by  hot oil.

NOT a good idea:D

Read a extract of a jug pilot that opened his canopy and the hot oil burned him, he even became BLIND and had to bail out (I guess those goggles were meant for something afterall). He recovered his vision a couple of days later.:)

I think i read this same story. He and another Jug pilot were practicing dog fighting in their shiny new p-47s and he had to bail.  Since he couldn't see he had to guess when to open his chute. He pulled it way late, thinking he was alot higher than he was, and hit the ground hard.  A family in a near by house saw the whole thing, found where he landed and nursed him back to health. Later they told him they didnt think he was alive when he was falling cause he failed to open his chute till the last second. Anyway it was an interesting story.

Ok in responce to the hot oil in the face I have a question.

How long would that motor continue to spew out hot oil???

I would certainly think that by the time the motor siezed up and quit pumping it that it would decrease quickly.

If implemented,  Would we have to install the Hewlet-Packard "Auto Hot Oil Sprayer" on our systems to promote greater realism??   (Also know as AHOS)  (prononced A-Hose)

That way you really get oil burns,  just to make it real??    ;)

(lame humor attempt)  :D

Hehe.  Aye Frency.  HTC actually undermodelled the effect so we wouldn't have complete loss of vision.  Anyway, another reason to fly twin engined aircraft.  :D
