Fighter gunsights inconsistent
« on: June 02, 2004, 08:45:16 PM »
I have noticed that the depiction of fighter gunsights in AH2 has always appeared to be inconsistent, in that:

1)  Some planes have AH2 gunsight glass which is much darker than in AH1, making them difficult to see through.  Example for FW190a5:

2)  Gunsight glass differs greatly in darkness from one model of plane to another, in an apparently random fashion.  For example, the FW190a5 vs the FW190a8.

Will this issue eventually be addressed?

Gunning for a B17, but the sight was not dark it was brightly hazed. Like looking at the sun as u try to line up target.

Heck,

I checked out a tempest today and there was NO combiner glass for the hud..."gunsight"....just the gunsight image...perhaps this is correct for a tempest...was my first and only flight in one.

The tempest gunsight was projected on to the front glass.  It is correct.

The darkenss of the gunsight is a user setting (you can change it)

Negative, you can only change the gunsight alpha that affects only to the gunsight visibility, not the darkness of the sight.

Historically, 190 and 109 gunsights had a small pieze of smoked glass connected to a handle, moving that handle you can place that smoked glass behind of the gunsight.

Here there are pictures where that pieze of smoked glass is clearly visible:

Godo

Problem is the darkness of the depicted gunsight glass in AH2 is not adjustable (as you stated), and this makes it very hard to see through.

I hope that Hitech and his associates will change all gunsight glass to a more transparent color, as in AH1, or make it user-selectable like the sight reticle.

BTW, Revi16B and ReviC12 seem too small in all 109s and 190s compared to the real ones, as well as placed too low.

Both, 190D9 and 109G10 used Revi16B, if you compare AH 109G10 gunsight with 190D9 gunsight you will also notice a notorious difference in size.

The following picture (posted by Wmaker at Picture Hangar) shows a 109G ReviC12, similar in size and placement to Revi16B. The sight is much taller than the current AH ones (G2, G6 and G10). The center of the sight is more or less in the vertical middle of the frontal windscreen while AH sight center is well below that position.
