Hitech, Pyro, audio query
« on: June 09, 2004, 04:54:55 AM »
I just got my audio workstaion all set up again after some time off, and I was messing around with sounds. I had a question about the engine sounds.

I like the way it is set up now, with the throttle controling the pitch of the stock audio file; less throttle, the clip is played slowed down, kinda like slowing or speeding a tape up or down.

Anyway, when different clips are placed in to AH2, they are reduced in pitch..im guessing about 7-10 semitones.

So If you import a audio file of an engine at full speed (wep on), in the game at full speed, it sounds like it's only running 3/4 or 5/8 of the normal pitch/speed.

Right now, I'm having to transpose and pitch change engine sounds up, so they sound ok in ah2. I don't mind this, just alot of hit or miss.

I dont know if it's possible to increase the parameters of the throttle  regarding where the top and bottom speed are set at in relation to the top speed(sound) of audio clip, but if so, them i'd imagine the stock sound would have to be dropped in pitch or it would sound like a weedeater :)

Also, are the any differences from the audio file system from ah1?
Are you still using the mono 16-bit, or are there any diiferent things I should know about if I start doing some sound editing?

Thanks way in advance,

Waffle

I'm going to throw this in here since its a question related to a possible change in sound format and Mitsu's sound files....

Using Mitsu's sounds in AH2, I get random 'clicks' (almost like static or scratches in an LP record) in the engine sound of the Mustang and Spitfire.   These engine sounds are fine in AH1, using the same .wav files.

Could a change in sound format cause that?

sampling rate might cause that, but I believe you would hear and audible difference in the sound being played faster or slower.

Ah1 and ah2 files show the same properties. so it might be the way the program is processing it, which leads to the engine query above :)
