Integrated MOBO 5.1 and use of mic
« on: June 01, 2004, 02:43:56 PM »
Hi everyone,

I am getting an Athlon 64 3000+ system with Asus K8V SE Deluxe motherboard shipping shortly.

My questions are....

1) The board will run 5.1 sound out of it and I am going to be using Altec Lansing 5.1 speaker system out of it.  Is there a way to run a mic as well?

2) Since the sound input/outputs off this board are all used (looking at the mobo specs)  for 5.1 sound ....how do you use a mic?  USB????

3)  If USB is the only route for 5.1 and mic usage...any recommendations that wont break the bank?

4)  Anyone using this type of setup?

Regards:)

Hmmm...

Using an Asus A7V8X-X here and got a sound out (green), mic in (pink), and a aux in (blue)??

Don't know the MB you're refering to.  Perhaps after you get it it will prove to have same setup?

Then again noted your statement that all were used so????

My Asus board has a mic in as well as 2 or 3 line outs and 1 digital out.  The spec on the P4C800 only lists 1 analog audio out and doesn't mention the mic in, just like the asus spec for your board.   I'd be really surprised if there wasn't a mic in.

Usually all 3 rear jacks will be used for sound out in 5.1 mode but the mobo also has a plug for a front panal mic & headphone jack connection, just make sure you get a case with front panal jacks.

Thanks Zmeg,

Yeah...I was reading the specs on it but did not see any mic on the back...will check the front out.

FYI...on this board all of the "Three" back inputs are needed to utilize 5.1 sound.

Thanks for all the help!!!!!

Regards:)

Well.....the down and dirty.....

I just got off the phone with http://www.digitalcomputech.com  and they calmed my fears so to speak!

There is a mic section in the front of the board that goes to the front of the case so I am in business!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wrag...all of those inputs are used to give digital 5.1 sound...to they are used by the Altec Lansing system I am getting...the MOBO "knows" or Ill tell it...that you are running 5.1 sound and directs the outputs as necessary.  I was pretty confused as well.

Chasr and Zmeg...thanks a bunch.....

Cant say enough for the help in the boards here and cant say enough about the guys building this system for me!  You all are great!!!!

Regards:D

Start signature with SIZE=1 and end with /SIZE in brackets.

Not quite on topic but I thought I would ask.

Do you folks  that have onboard sound find the quality as good as a PCI Soundcard? ala the Audigy 2 series?

The reason I ask is that I have an older mobo with an Audigy 2 card for sound and just purchased a Ausus P4P800-E Deluxe mobo that has ALC850(?) built in sound, as part of a upgrade.

I can tell you that the Nforce2 integrated sound (the high end one like you mention) sounds great.  It isnt 'quite' up to a $150 soundcard of course, but unless you have $200 speakers and a very quiet room (most PCs are pretty noisy) you'll never hear ANY diference....and even under ideal conditions the diference is minimal.

Nothing wrong with using a seperate card if you already own it...but I wouldnt spend money on one if you have one of the new high end integrated audio chipsets.  Its a far cry from the crap we used to have with integrated audio.

Thanks Alf,

Its been ages since I had tried onboard audio, I will give it a whirl before thinking about adding the card in.
