Anybody painting a whole flight?
« on: June 04, 2004, 08:56:38 AM »
I was thinking, it would be cool to have 4 or so aircraft painted the same, but with different fuselage numbers, to simulate a flight of aircraft.

A clever moviemaker could use it to make air combat films ala "Last Man Standing".

Anybody doing this?

There’s only 15 skins per plane, I don’t think it would be "right" for more then 1 guy to turn in more then 2 per type so others have an opportunity to get there work in.

Besides Pyro said that skins that were redundant would be rejected. A whole flight of 109F-4s for instance would all have similar camo and colors. Thus you would have 4 of the 15 in the same skin.

The next AH scenario is BoB and they hope to run it in AH2. Pyro hasn’t said if the 15 skin per plane limit will be in effect for scenarios.

If the 15 limit doesn’t apply to events then each squadron could get their Historic skin. While each player won’t get a specific skin it would still be cool for each squad to fly a historic paint scheme.

Also in FB you dont skin an entire flight. The game is set up so you can pic a base skin with out markings then the game auto assigns the correct marking. So a flight of 109s, lets say 4./JG 53 (4th staffel ) would be numbered sequentially (lets say 12 guys in a flight) 1 - 12 and the markings will be the correct color and have the correct gruppen markings.

I wonder if it would be possible in a H2H map? It would be nice for Squad Pictures and crap like that.

Warszawa Yak9s?  ;)

Good point.  But I would think that some of the less popular (but fightable) types might be candidates for that sort of thing, like the C.205, P-40E, 109G2, P-51B, F4U birdcage, or Ki-61.  Maybe even the F4F, too.

An option to this would be have a base set skin and allow players to select tail flash markings and such on a drop down.  That way they could select their own setup and have squadron based aircraft with appropriate tail flashes included.

I myself would rather see multiple good overall skins and add this feature for proper tail markings.  Say add 15 different camo styled skins with the options of tail flash markings and squadron logo markings.  You'd have the option to display your actual squad logo or a realistic one made for all the units that flew those type of airframes in WWII.
