Could you pay the company for the upgrade, or is that not an option?

So long as he isn't playing games or spending more than 500 bucks, it will work.

You can pay the company for the upgrade it's only $50.00.

But the thing is, he's thinking of this computer for me, as a game comp..

He thinks he knows computers..

And we don't wanna spend 1,000.00 on a comp, If I could get a comp with a decent sound card and a crappy vid card with AGP slots, well I'm set.. Cause I still have the Vid Card.

Looks pretty craptacular as a gaming rig. Likely the entry level, corners cut offer for the e-mail/web browsing crowd. But, since he's paying... With an AGP slot (really, really need to check this) it might be good for a starter. The 2.7 celeron is getting borderline. OK for now but HL2, Doom 3, and even Far Cry today will be pushing it.

Another consideration: repair disk or seperate XP cd?

memory is slow too, no dual channel either I bet.

I would try to talk him into letting you build you own, maybe a neat father/son project :)

you can spend way less than that ($600/$700) and get much more in return, especially if you can swap in existing floppies, keyboard, cd rom, case, etc. (but with a new PS)
