Check out the Toms hardware site for reviews.

The X800 looks to be the king, but the 9800pro is only a bit slower for todays games.

I just went with a 9800 pro.

It is about twice as fast.

The X800 Pro is about double the speed of the 9800 Pro,and the X800 XT (the faster of the X800 series) is about double the speed of the Radeon 9800 XT.

The X800 Pro's are available for order now, you'll have to wait 2-3 weeks to order the X800 XT.

I'm going to buy the X800 XT when they are in stock later this month.

Nah-the 9800 Pro get's it's bellybutton kicked at high resolution(1600 x 1200 with eye candy on). It's only slightly faster at the lower resolutions(1024 x 768).Every benchmark at 1600 x 1200 the X800 is approximately twice as fast as the 9800.

That's why I'm buying one,I like playing at 1600 x 1200 with eye candy on.Fwiw,I'm upgrading from a 9800 Pro.

if I were going to buy a new Radeon card today, I would go with the Radeon 9800 XT 256meg.  Why? Cuz it has been around for a little while and the price has dropped because of the X800.

The cheapest price I could find for a Radeon 9800 XT on Pricewatch was $371.

The X800 Pro is $399 at BestBuy's website, and Zipzoom will have the 800 XT for about $450 in several weeks.Paying between $29 to $68 more for twice the card is an easy choice for me.

X800 Pro

X800 XT

If you by any chanse use an LCD with fixed resolution at say 1280*1024 then it will prolly be overkill with the x800's

It won't. The speed you have at high resolution, you've got it also with antialiasing and anisotropique filtering. So you can play at AA x4 or x6 and AF x8 with minimum (even without) performance lost.

I'll go for X800 myself, future proof.

Very true...guess it depends on how much $$$ you wanna spend on a card to futureproof when new cards are comming out fairly often. If money was no problem i would buy the very best so i would not have to open my case often, but if you have a limited supply of cash for pc upgrades it is not economical to futureproof :)
