Yep, that's what I said.

ATI Radeon 7000, steam driven video card, running AHII.

hehe.

Intel Celeron 2.6 GHz
256 MB DDR

In game settings:

Resolution at 1024X768

Max Texture : 128

LOD: set at farthest to the right (performance)

DOS: set at farthest to the right (peformance)

Getting frame rates in the mid to high 30's, dropping down to mid teens in a furball.

If I could figure out what I can safely shut down in windows XP I might even be able to squeeze a couple more FR's out of it maybe.

Any advice out there? (other than getting a new vid card, it's gonna come, but not till end of summer)

Cheers,

RTR

Don't change anything and drop in another 512 of ram. Or pull the original and drop in two 512's.

I'd be curious to see the difference that just additional ram would make in that setup. ( I know nothing of the vidio card ) Just curious because I'm runnin a gig of ram with a 3.0 chipset. And my framerate is never below forty with everything at max with a 180 buck nvidia card.

With a 2.6 I'd think you'd have the potential for much better framerates.

But is it ram, or the card ?? Or both ??

Hiya Skull, I figured you'd find this.

I remembered that you also had this steam driven card.

go here

http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

select your operating system

then select "Graphic"

then select "Radeon Family"

If you have WIN XP then you want the Catalyst Windows XP 4.5
driver download.

If you have Win 98 you will want the Catalyst Windows 98/ME 4.3 driver download.

Save it to  someplace you can find easy. (I just stuck a new folder on the desktop and saved it there).

Uninstall your old driver. Make sure you do this BEFORE you install the new drivers.

Once the old driver is gone you can install the new.

Now Skull, the standard disclaimer applies here. I am in no way an expert with this stuff, and can't verify or guarantee that this will work for you.

Also, remember that the more CPU you have the better off you will be. I am running a 2.6 GHz CPU and have 256 MB ram.

Frame rates will be low and just barely playable, but it is playable for me. (at least till I get a better card).

Cheers young fella, and good luck:)

Hiya nopoop, I was planning on adding more ram anyway when I upgrade the card. But maybe I'll just throw some more ram to it now and see what happens.

I am pretty sure I am limited by the card. It's pretty old and I am surprised that it even runs AHII.

But, who knows?

I am a total dolt when it comes to computers.

I'll let ya know how it turns out:)

I was running an old Geforce 2 pro 64 meg on my old machine. 1.2 amd, but I had 512 of ram, and never got in the teens.

That's why I'm curious on what additional ram would do in your situation.

If your buying ram and a card, put in the ram first and see what improvement happens.

Toyboxes are confusing but kinda fun to mess with.

Here's a question for you.

I have an old computer that just recently died. The hard drive went nuts and one of my son's cd's completely shattered in the drive.

This is where I got the video card. (it's a PCI card, and I have 2 spare PCI slots in my newer computer).

Anyway, the card obviously works fine. Now, there is 190 mbs of ram still left in the old computer. What do you think the chances are that it is good?

Would I cause any damage if I tried installing that ram into the newer computer?

Both computers are very low end.

Emachines: the old dead one is an etower 500, and the newer one a T2642 emachine.

Just curious.

cheers,

RTR,

There ia a program called "end it all" - search for it in google and download. It will end safely programs in Win xp. You can also tweak it no to end any program you like AND best of all, it is a free download

RTR,
Hey bud.  I think we have the same video card.  ATI Radeon 9700.

My frame rates in AH2 vary from 20 - 85 with patch 39.  Still have some screen freezes, but I'm workin on it.  :)

I got some better frame rates in AH1 and AH2 when I switched from the CATALYST 4.5 drivers to the Omega drivers at http://www.omegacorner.com/.  I suggest checking them out.

Also, the latest version of SpyBot has a feature that will help you kill progs at startup.

Re: the spare stick of RAM... Check with the manufacturer or read the manual that came with the PCs.  There are different types of memory out there.  You should make sure that both systems use the same type before plugging the RAM in.

Use caution if you get this program. While it does list Windows NT4, it does not list Windows XP (which is really NT5). I'm not sure what will happen if you use it on XP.

Hey guys......ATI RADEON 7200 ViVo here and....
don't use Catalyst 4.5 at all, use Catalist 4.3 instead that are faster (at least on my PC).

Go in Advanced settings of the Video Properties and move the slider bar of the D3D settings all the way left (performances to max) eliminating any other Z-buff, anisotrop, and all the rest of the video tweaks, and last but not least, download and install "GameXp" to increase your general (and video) performances.

That's all folks.

Let me know what you have got afther these settings.

P.S.: these settings have to be made together with those of RTR to have a good result.

Bye

Hello NHawk,

I use it with xp no problems. I use the close all programs selection NOT the kill all selection. I ensure that it does not close my ati programs and it works great.
