just installed zone alarm on new pc
« on: June 09, 2004, 09:27:24 AM »
I installed it about 3 hrs ago and i've had over 1,500 intrusions blocked already.  Is this normal?!?!     If i open up zone alarm i can see the counter going up and up.  I don't remember having anything near this number with my old PC with ME.   I've run adaware and spybot and they don't find anything.

Begging your pardon, but how would you have known you were having intrusions on your old PC if you didn't have a firewall installed?

1,500 seems quite high, are they all different or mostly of the same type?  If so, what type is it?  Also, is there a pattern to the source IP addresses?  Eg, is it from the same IP?

On wich port ?
What you think is intrusion is perhaps some attempt to connect to a p2p software the previous owner of your IP was using.

Chairboy- i had zone alarm on my old PC.

The dude-  Yeahs it's all incoming.

Straffo a lot of them are port 4662, but have several with port 2745, 1025, 3127 and 6129 too.

I'm not a computer geek so i really have no idea whats going on.  I've had to turn the lart advisor off as it's popping up just about every other second.

Gotta got to work now, ohwell.

I had a lot of that when I was on dial-up.  someone who had my ip earlier would post be on a p2p network, and someone else would still be trying to hit them for a file from an old search long after they had logged off, and I had came back on that IP.

once I got a static IP those 'attacks' almost completely stopped.

I don't know all but port 4662 is emule/edonkey (p2p) for example

To be safe autorise only the application you are running to go outside of your computer (like AH, Internet explorer etc ...)

In doubt ask here our local network genious (aka Skuzzy :p) should have the answer :)
