You can't beat the L glass after trying some Tamroons and Bigmas and the regular Canon lenses the L glass is worth the dough, instead of a 70-200 L 2.8 and converter i went with the 100-400L IS. Also picked up the 17-40L.

All shot were hand held and IS.

Macros from the tele four feet away, also i have a Canon 500D lens that attaches to the end DOF is pretty small tho.

WOW nice pics man. The one of the bee is very impressive concidering how fast the wings on one of these suckers move.

You can see the wing quite clearly! The detail is amazing.

Also... what was the motivation behind the 10D vs D70 decision? That one kinda suprised me.

Ah... found it. That's the lens I've been eyeballing for a while. I'm planning on getting one next summer after I've saved a few pennies. Er... a hundred thousand pennies.

I've heard nothing but good about it and have seen people recomend it over the bigger 600 and 1200 canon lenses just for the fact that it's an awesome picture with a lightweight - carry anywhere package. The price isn't too bad for what you're getting either.

I think Soburo has one of these also.

Actually I have the 400mm f/5.6L. It has slightly faster autofocus and makes slightly sharper images. It doesn't collect dust like the push-pull zoom of the 100-400mm L IS.
The 100-400mm L IS is a really good all around lens though. I saw more of those at the PoF Airshow than any other lens.
Having Image Stabilization and zoom in a relatively light weight (Compared to the monster 400mm f/2.8L) package is a really good, versatile all around lens.

IMO the best all round lens that Canon makes considering the price and it's L glass and has IS. Somewhat soft @ F5.6 in dim light but you can stop down a tad and jack up the ISO. I have another 10D now and the one mounted with the 100-400 gets used the most.

Soon i hear Canon will be coming out with IS II. The push pull zoom has it's drawbacks but being able to carry a 400mm (plus a teleconverter) lens in a Toploader 75A is sweet.

Sab is being humble about the 400 5.6, it's far superior to the 100-400 @ 400mm when i comes to sharpness, CA etc... The advantages the 100-400 has is the range and IS both static and panning mode, also it works well with a Monopod no need to haul a Tripod around.

F 5.6 1/90 ISO 200 100mm Hand held with no post production just resized, about 7:40 pm sun setting behind trees in background.

L glass is sweet.

Oh i never left Nikon, Nikon left me.

What happened with the D70?

I usually get up every morning and shoot the sunrise, the D70 when compared to my CP5700 gave me just slighty better noise ratio. Hardly an upgrade or worth investing five grand into lenses for. Not like the somewhat silky smooth ISO 100 of the Canon. Even when using a Nikkor F2.8 lens compared against a Canon F4.0 lens the Canon gave a better end product without post production.

The metering on the D70 sucked large compared to Canon especially when it came to red colours. The shutter release on the D70 is a tad loud as well and can scare away targets. I plan on getting a 300mm F2.8 lens in the near future when the wife gets off her anus and starts to work again and wanted an all metal body for the weight.

I should of gone with my gut instinct and bought the Canon from the get go but wanted to give Nikon one final kick at the can.

That said the Nikon with its features still is a good camera and has a niche in the market for the price, i just didn't fall into that category.
