I have just built a replacement for my brother's creaking 1999 PC. He's not a high end user and needs it as a business box - email, web browsing plus a few other apps.
I built it with the A7N8X-X mobo - doesn't have RAID, but that's OK. AMD XP2600 processor - which is supposed to run at 2GHz, or even 2.083GHz (quoting from memory). Memory is a PC3200 400MHz DDR - 512MB.
So this system is not so different from my own system. But I cannot seem to get the CPU to run at 2GHz the way I have mine set up. I have that same processor and memory.
My mobo settings are these:
- CPU External Frequency = 200
- CPU Frequency Mult [Menu]
- CPU Freq. Mult = 10
- System Performance = Optimal
- Memory Freq = By SPD
- Result = 200MHz
If I apply these to the new PC setup, it hangs. The best I've been able to do is 133MHz for the CPU external freq., and 12.5 for the multiplier (the highest option) giving 1553MHz. But I can't get 2.0GHz.
One weird message I get from the BIOS at boot up is "Memory Speed 200MHz in Single Channel Mode". What's that then? Duff memory?
Bus clock on my mobo is 200MHz. On his, it comes up at 100MHz. The mobo jumper is set to allow up to 400MHz - I checked the jumper.
Any ideas?
