Small connection to Reagan
« on: June 10, 2004, 11:02:44 PM »
My wife's grandfather was a bomber pilot in WWII
He flew B-17's and B-29's.  He was in his later years in a photo-recon unit and did not know it at the time, but was the last B-29 to fly over Hiroshima that did not carry a nuclear weapon.  He took the "before" pictures before we dropped the big one.  He still has the flight plan from that mission on a map and I soon hope someday to have a copy hanging in our house.  I had a chance to look at his scrapbook and in it were HANDWRITTEN letters from Ronald Reagan.  He also had other letters from Nixon and pictures of the Republican convention that were featured in Time magazine with him in it.  The picture you see in the article, is on the white house lawn with his wife, and Ronald and Nancy Reagan.  He is confined to a wheelchair now, but still has many stories to tell.  Sometimes he can't remember some things, then he knows the maximum take off weight of a B-17.  This is a story that ran in the local newspaper about him and his relationship with the former president.

 Hope you all enjoy.

Thanks. That was really great. Take pride in your connection.
