I wish it wasn't on squealing Pay-Per-View here in the States and just on ESPN like it used to be.  If England makes it to the semis or the final, I will probably order it then.  I do not think there are any bars around here that give a rat's bellybutton about football/soccer so no going anywhere to see it.

Oh well, I'll just read match reports.

But you're right, football this weekend!  USA has a WC 2006 qualifier this weekend and next weekend against...  Grenada!  :D

Europe is lucky that the USA doesn't give a damn about soccer or we would domniate it like every thing else.

Ah, two games every day for the next 3 weeks. Good thing the weather is lousy around here.

Our chances have taken a bit of a dive since we will be missing two key players for our first match against Italy. I suspect a clubbing in that game and fear we won't get back up for the next two games vs. Bulgaria and the hated Swedes.

What you call Football is actually Rugby, cept you play it wearing padding and motorcycle helmets, which is a bit girly if you ask me.

Yes, but the helmet is used as a weapon.  The most violent collisions in any sport are in American football.

A tooth stuck in head - but hooker plays on

The Guardian

Even by the macho standards of rugby league, Shane Millard's battle scar takes some beating. The Widnes Vikings' tough Australian hooker was being treated for a head wound after the match with Castleford Tigers on Sunday, when an opponent's tooth was found embedded in his head...

bigman, you must have missed some of the NHL playoffs.  Moving just as fast and there's that whole ice and boards thing vs the grass and no boards thing.  :)

hmm, $179 for the entire Euro 2004 on PPV.   Not bad for the whole thing, but considering I'm at work when the games are being played, plus saving for the AH Con, I just can't afford it.

Actually it is illegal to use the helmet as a weapon.
And you do not ever want to teach it to be used as such.
Here in jersey at least on the Pop Warner level (as of a few years ago anyway)
All Pop Warner head coaches have to attend a meeting where such things among others are discussed and films showed about using the helmet as a weapon.
Ive attended these and seen the films and the Xrays.
Ugly ugly stuff
Trust me, you never ever want to teach anyone to use the helmet as a weapon.
Unless that is your willing to take the risk of that person loosing the use of his arms and legs.. or worse.

If your willing to use your helmet as a weapon you shouldnt be playing.
If your willing to teach someone how to use it as a weapon, you have no buisness coaching. Period. End of story. Its not even open to debate

We have 270 million + people with almost all races.  Our African American population is 35 million + and people of West African origin run and jump better than whites.  This is not opinion but fact.  If soccer was played in the inner city and rural land in America..Europe would never win a world cup again.

Trying to put a racial spin on the issue of why the US doesn't dominate football is pretty sad.

Fact is it is all about money.  The major $ derived from sports is from television aka advertising revenue...the game of football doesn't stop every two minutes for a time-out, personell change, or simply gaps between "plays".  As a result the TV $ in the US are simply not there.

Curval, tv adds could go away from soccer coverage and nobody would miss much :lol

That game is just painfully boring to view.

Golf and baseball are similar......plain arse boring.

The point is that there are very few TV ads in football (soccer).  Injuries and half-time, that is about it.  It is a fluid game and doesn't work well to generate US style advertising revenue.

Just opinion then I guess.  Myself and hundreds of millions worldwide think that it is not painfully boring to watch.  Quite the opposite, in fact.  Every two years I am fanatical about the Euro championship, and then two years later the World Cup.  Other than that I keep up as best I can with highlight footage.

Golf and baseball aren't my favourite sports to watch at all.  I play golf and used to be a huge baseball fan, prior to the last strikes.  Since then I have no interest whatsoever, so I guess I kind of agree on those two as being boring spectator sports, in general.

Of course, whatching Tiger romp to victory in the Masters a few years back was amazing...and watching the Blue Jays win the world series, twice, was alot of fun.

I guess every sport has its moments.
