Hey Guys,
I just thoght I would post some shots of the natural metal that I've been messing around with.
I saw the post about the reflective "chrome" p47. Due to some of the limitations about reflective properties of the models, I tried to "draw" reflective properties into some of the skins.
Anyway, I just wanted to post some examples of what I've done incase any one needs to skin some metal.
First up, metal extension plug on FW190-d9

Now the natural metal leading edges

Here's a p47d25 that I was working on - It looks ok here, but the properties of the d25 model make it look more grey and dull.
the exact opposite of trying to put camo on a reflective model.
I might change it up and give it a whirl as a p47d40.

Here is the base natural metal p47:

Lastly a couple p51s:
This one was "return to sender" by HTC. Reason was too blue. I thought that the color "depth" looked cool, but the more I looked at it the more it started looking odd to me also.

This is a toned down mustang. This was recently submitted. I can't say if there needs to be changes on this.

Anyway, Aluminum and metal on planes reflects at different colors depending on various circumstances. Some of them will look bright white, others blue and purple fading into a white. This could be sun position, cloud cover and other envioronmental issues, as well as tons of "aluminum issues - polished, non polished, aged, ect....
The best way that I have found to do metal is to use lots of blues, greys and whites. Start with white/ add your gray for shading, then add your blues for tint, hue. But not too much blue

And always follow the contour of the plane!
Hope this helps
