The best, excluding perk planes.....

Best defence fighter: La-7 (it has speed, climb and agility)
Best hit and run fighter: Fw 190D-9 (fast, 500 kilo bomb)
Best jabo: P-47D-40 (2,500 lbs bombs, 10 rockets)
Best Knife fighter: Spitfire Mk. V (goes without saying)
Best buff destroyer: Fw 190A-8 (Great guns, decent speed slow climber tho)
Best interceptor: Bf 109G-10 (nothing gets to altitude faster)
Best long range fighter: P-51B/D (reach out and touch the enemy)
Best Carrier fighter: F6F-5 (only the perked F4U-4 is better).

My regards,

Widewing

Best knife fighter has to be Japanese.  Every book I've ever read said even the Spits had to b&z Zekes and other Japanese lightweights.

i tend to think the P38 is not to good for buff killing not saying it cant do it its just outclassed by many better buff destroyers

and when i think about it the P38 is just a great all around plane but thats not what the thread is about its what plane is best at what roles

so the P38

is a great Jabo

but is it better then say the P47 or P51 at that role

all other roles of it is surpassed by other planes but no other plane can surpass its all around abilty

now you can say the spitfire does the same but that is not true can the spitfire carry as many bombs? can it take a beating like a lighting can?  and the spitfire is far weaker then the P38 in buff destroying role

I'm laughing at the people that just pop their favorite aircraft into every position.

just asking what you all use or think is the best at what roll

Yes, I love the 110g2, so what? I happen to think it's the best for doing all/most of the above.

P-38 is excellent for buff killing.  It only takes on pass to knock out a bomber and if you attack it smart can easily take out all three.

the Spitfire mkV is the most beautifull thing i could imagine flying. ever. period. full stop. no arguments. shhhhhhh!

and when you need bombs, an F4U-1D is all any pilot could ask for.

the 190a5 is fun

all other planes are just targets.

P-38??   pffffffft!
