Aces High over Warbirds. Why?
« Reply #15 on: March 09, 2000, 04:04:00 PM »
Well I reduced my w/b account to the $9.95 minimum 2 months ago.I had been playing for 4 1/2 yrs.I wanted to give A/H a try.

I logged on to warbirds Sunday night for the first time in 6 weeks.I flew for 1 hour and promptly decided right then and there to cancel my account for good.Did so this morning.

Also I have no confidence at all in IEN anymore.  3.0? I don't believe and why should I? SHO-ME

It is great seeing a lot of old handles I used to fly w/b with.

Daddog,
I have virtually stopped playing WB now, and I flew it for close to 4 years.  I changed for alot of reasons, including those already well dictated above.  For me, price is a big issue, this is so much easier on the wallet, but also because warbirds had gotten so stale for me.  Nothing new, same thing over and over.

I also came because alot of my online buddies came over, but I stayed for the challenge.  The planes are more challenging to fly well, the flight models more realisitic (I think so anyway, never flew a real life warbird to know for sure).

HiTech and Pyro are good guys, flying online and interacting with the community constantly.  This brings a sense of working together, molding the game into a great sim.

Give it an honest try, have some guys flying it help you get setup and up to speed and I think you will like it.

Good luck,
Dago

I've been flying AH since the begining, well except for a time between version .46 and last Sunday. I'm using my 2 weeks free time now.

Tha hardest thing for me to adjust to is the flight model/gunnery. I think I'm close to a stick setting that works.

A definite plus with AH is the graphics. Terrain looks more lifelike, not all pointy and sharp. Clouds, view system, movable control surfaces, they are all real nice.

The N1K2 seems like a good transition a/c, even a dweeb like me can fly it well enough to be dangerous.

Daddog I served with WB since the CK Beta days.

In February I closed my account and came here and have never looked back since.

As above some tolerance is needed cos HT and Co are still rolling stuff out. But the stable connects, flat rate, plus good graphics FE etc balance it out easily.

Hey Daddog!

Good to see you on the Aces High boards Boss  .

I've been flying both WB and AH.
The best thing I like about WB is that the Flying Mongrels are there  .  The things I dislike about AH I am confident will be resloved over time; like real world terrain and a historical arena.  The things I dislike about WB I do not have confidence will be resolved at all.

I too am impressed with the number of responses to your post.  Guess these guys really like AH!

OH YES...oh , all of the above and be very careful of the fools gold. Some fish are just..well fish in a net. wb is not what AH can be in time and I want to be around AH for the time it gets it's real wings and does wb another one up. Because I have always like the team and the way it worked. (Netgoofystuff are in both)

Well Daddog, after reading everything, (includeing the links above, Thanks guys!)
I'm ready when you are!

Frankly iEN has totally blown any respect I ever had for it. Connects since the move to NC are half as good as before, and show no real sign of improveing.

Flight models, well this is something I've talked over with a few others in the Game.
The A6m series ability to fly competitively in any arena has been slowly degraded from 2.5 to current. It shows no sign of getting better. Every version is a little worse, ever
time they adjust the "Stick Stirring Code" it loses something.

Now I don't know what the Aces High Zero will fly like. I'm not even sure it matters. I know from the beta that I can fly the Nik2J till Hell freezes over.
Connects are good.
Terrain is great (I expect it to get better shortly)Clouds, well I've never seen anything half as good!

Icons & a HA type arena are my biggest concerns.
As to the community, for the last year the WB community has gotten worse & worse.
While I've seen the AH community start strong & just keep growing.
As to the people who fly here I have one thing to say.

HI GUYS, I'm coming HOME SOON!

Remember when you first flew WB,s online.
The sweaty palms, the thrill of soaring through cyber space in your own AC. The friends you made online? That's the main reason I switched. Also; HTC wants this to work. (my opinion) I left a good squad in WB
to come here. Well worth it! I miss my friends, but have also made lots of new ones!
You and all your squad will be welcome here.
Bye the way; fly Bishop, we are green
If you sign on as any other country, it will show green but don't believe what you see. Bishops have green sheep
Keep your sticks on the ice.

Hiya Daddog!

I recommend bringing the squad over here for squad night activities, and flying WB only for special events in the HA and S3.

For myself, it was the configurable views that finally sold me on AH. Also, the excitement over here in the arena resembles that of Warbirds back in it's heyday of 1.11r2.

Lastly, it just wouldn't be the same without you and Ghosth around here.

daddog,
• I think the graphics are better.
 • The FM will take some getting used to.  Personally, I prefer AH's FM to WB, but when I first tried Aces High it took a while before I became comfortable with it.
 • The terrain is much more interesting with rolling hills, and canyons, and mountains that make low level flight a rush.  Also, it seems easier to see how close you are to the ground here.
 • The cockpit view system is a big plus in my book.  Being able to actually 'move around' in the cockpit to get a better view does a lot for the game, giving a better sense of the illusion of space.  Though the cockpits are somewhat simplistic, the trade-off for freedom of movement when viewing is well worth it, IMHO.
 • There are no real connect issues in Aces High, generally speaking.
 • It is cheaper than WB if you fly more than 20 hrs. per month.
 • The HTC staff is comprised of six people, two of which were an integral part of the making of WB, itself.  There are no real administrative levels to wade through when there are account, or billing issues.  And, in fact, at least four of the HTC staff play AH, and are forever interacting with the players for input and suggestions.
Well, I flew WB from the time of the CK 0.87 beta up until the day the Aces High beta came out.

Price is sure an issue with me.  The Australian dollar exchange rate means that instead of spending about $200 a month on WB I can sneak by with about $50 per month.

But the single best reason I can think of is this:  in my four years with WB I could probably count on one hand the really good fights I had.

In Aces High, in 4 months, I cannot even begin to remember them all.  Just last night flew the most perfect rolling scissors fight against Extreme... both in 38's and it went on for about 5 minutes until one of us finally gained a killing edge.  Fights with MrAnza, and Hristo, and any number of AH demons who just make you sweat bullets all the time.  Finishing a fight and being almost too shaky to even type a 'Salute' on common channel.

All in all, its just a better experience than WB.

Plus, the connects are a damn sight better as well
